Unidentified 787 Orders

Wed Aug 03, 2005 1:51 pm

OK, lots of speculations as to whom has ordered the 6 unidentified 787 orders on the Boeing website...
But that LAN order that was announced today for 767s got me wondering if these might be for LAN also? But then again, I would think they would also announce a 787 unidentified order with the 767 unidentified order if that was them...
I know some have speculated that it might be LOT, others have said Qantas...I know there are some other airlines out there "shopping" and making us speculate.

When LAN ordered their 3 767s on May 11 this year 4 business days later was when the 6 UFO 787s were ordered. Coincidence in timing? Who knows. What was noticeable about the UFO 767s at the time was that LAN filed a report which actually disclosed they were the buyer of those frames.

I am of the opinion the order is not for LOT.

Could it be that Air New Zealand is topping up their ridiculously small order for two 787's to something more reasonable?

My other bet is that Continental is being bold and betting that their long-haul network is going to need the extra capacity. They are grabbing Air Canada's recently canceled machines.

These were ordered before AC cancelled their order. I highly doubt it is CO. They've signed for 5 with 5 more to "firm" and hold another 5 options. I feel the reason they only signed an initial 5 is their need for capacity and they have retained the 5 remaining delivery slots and re-allocated the deposits to secure the 2 772ERs they ordered last week.

There has to be some hint out there for someone.
Is my Pan Am ticket to the moon still good?
