AF358 - Why No Escape Slides Visible?

First off I think it is excellent that everyone survived and I think the crew clearly did a fantasitc job evacuating the cabin, but why in the pictures do we not see escape slides inflated. It seems 1L may have deployed but not the others. I read in another thread that this may have been deliberate because the slides could catch fire? I would be most interested to hear opinion on this.

I saw still photos from close up of people running from the plane after evacuating. The plane does not seem very high from the ground, you can kind of see it from the picture below:


As far as I am aware from watching the cabin crew on flights, all they need to do to stop the slides inflating is to disconnect it, like they would for a standard terminal arrival.
