Quote from the article:
"The 30 planes make up half of the total 60 planes AirAsia has ordered from the European plane-maker.
AirAsia has already paid a 15% deposit for the planes, the report says."

Doesn't that mean it's just that they have found the money to pay the busses they have ordered... hence that it's not a new order ?  Confused

Anyway, I take this occasion to congratulate Airbus and AirAsia for this deal

Way to go Airbus!!!  Smile

You are correct that AirAsia have been designated as an "official airline" for the Manchester United Football Club in England. It is not because they fly into Europe, as they do not, with the only "long haul" operations that they do, being the special "charter flights" for The Hadj each year, when they bring in Boeing 747's and other aircraft from a variety of operator, as do many airlines from countries with a large Muslim population.

I understand that they felt it a good marketing ploy for them to sponsor the "infamous" Manchester United Football Club, as this club has a very strong following not only in its home market of Malaysia, but right across Asia, as AirAsia themselves are trying to cover Asia with their expanding low cost airline operations, it seems it could pay dividends for them.

With regards to the Airbus order, I agree, with those above that this is advising of how they intend to obtain the financing for these aircraft and not any new orders for them, per se....

Many Greetings and I hope this helps you out !!!

Malaysia is in fact home to the largest Manchester United Fan Club outside the UK (well it was - not sure if it still is but given the huge support from AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines - I expect it to still hold true).

The MANUFC fan club also has the only official football signed by QEII on her last visit to Kuala Lumpur.

Interestingly, Malaysia Airlines is Man Utds' official airline on its long-haul tours but the players all stepped off the MAS plane recently and walked into an AirAsia press conference wearing the AK logo on their shirts!!!
