Two UA A320's Tangle At Denver Int'l

Fri Aug 05, 2005 1:56 am

It's happenend again. Two United A320's clipped each other while in the gate area yesterday (Aug 3). The flight numbers involved are UA1511 and UA1540 which I believe are Ted flights (N472UA and N496UA respecitively). That would put this incident at Concourse A. With all of the copious amounts of space around the gate areas at Denver International Airport somebody is probably going to lose their job today (again). There's really no excuse for this happening (except maybe a mechanical problem though that's very rare).

Edited for typo...

One of their jets clipped another jet while preparing to taxi in IND just recently. Not sure who was to blame on that one. Isn't it odd for this to happen so often? I can sort of see someone backing into a jet with a vehicle by mistake. But two jets hitting each other?
Indy = Indianapolis and not Independence Air

It's on the FAA's website. Either the local media wasn't notified or they choose not to run the story. I think it was the former because the Denver media loves making minor incidences at DIA a major news event.

Ugh....not again.

Indy, that was a UAX jet (E170), and I believe it clipped another airline.

I lump them together with UA. Is that incorrect to do so?

Noooo!!! Not a new 170. Say it aint so...  Sad

I hope that bird is ok. And if it was a NW DC-9 it clipped, then it doesnt matter, it takes a full fledged A319 to bring down one of those.  Wink

"I lump them together with UA. Is that incorrect to do so?"

Yes, it is incorrect to do so. With the exception of Chicago, United Express are a totally contracted operation on the ground. Those are not United employees pushing, loading, unloading, wing walking the United Express flights. They are contract employees. Delta Global Services (DGS) does the ground handling for United Express at Dulles. Don't know what company does it at Denver. You get what you pay for. DGS is pathetic.

United Express planes and flight crew are not United Airlines employees, either.

Have you ever worked the ramp in DEN? I have, and there isn't copious amounts of space around the gate areas. If there are two or more planes pushed back at once. The pilot has little room to make in u-turn to the taxiway.

air wisconsin used to do the ground work in ORD for express now united mainline does it. Air Willy used to do the ground work in DEN for express to and is now being transitoned to Skywest. in dullass, DGS (a delta subsidary) get paid to do the ground work for united express and they sux. Air wisconsin still does the gate and ticket stuff for express with continued dirty looks from the united gate agents who are too good to even help an express passenger holding a united ticket, but that a totally different thread all together.
