GOL To Take Over Southern Winds?

Fri Aug 05, 2005 5:56 pm

I've just come across an article that states that Southern Winds has been offered to GOL by the Argentine Transportation Ministry. Basically, it says that GOL would get a hold pf the current A4 routes as well as A4's 300 employees. Furthermore, there would be the possibility of creating a Cordoba-Sao Paulo route for GOL, since varig will be dropping this route.

sorry, the text is in spanish only  Sad

The mayor of Cordoba, the second biggest city in Argentina, has an appointment with GOL's CEO Mr. Constantino in Sao Paulo. The chance of GOL landing in COR is very high. RG will drop COR from its network as of Monday next week.

No, I havent heard anything. Tks for the breaking news! GOL no doubt has the cash to take over Southern Winds. GOL's expansion is just amazing. It will probably become Brazil's no. 1 airline (domestic) in 2006.

Rgs,

I think that the wrong decission of the management of the directive equipment to buy a 742 was the reason to interrupt all their flights leaving more argentinian and from other countries in land.

I don't know if there were a great idea to take over Southern Winds from part of GOL. I think that will be an error. There a ra now some many operators routes from Buenos Aires to Spain (the principal destination of A4). Iberia, Aerolieneas Argentinas, Air Plus Comet, Air Madrid.

Is it the airline of Mr. Eurnekian? If it's true, only see the Volare case.

They probably have the $$, but would they want to risk it? Ok, a Cordoba-SP route all for themselves (no RG) is a good thing, but if they take over A4, they will have to keep A4's domestic routes. My point is, would they be willing to begin a direct competition wit AR and LAN, particularly on the AEP-COR route? I hope they do, the more the better  Smile

We'll see how this develops, but very interestin indeed!

I have to disagree with you on this one,
When they got the 747 it was the logical step to follow since they were increasing theis EZE-MAD frequencies. A4's downfall began with the drug-smuggling scandal. That was their big mistake. If that would not have happened, they would have expanded, not only to MAD, but also to destinations in the US once Argentina would have regained CAT I status. In fact, I believe A4 were about to recieve another 747.

In my opinion is easier to Gol get the COR-GRU flight with their own planes. Concerning to get the Southern Winds it self, i have my doubts as Mr. Constantitno always talk about that every route is well planed in order to avoid the problem of stop ops. Also, i expect soonest a third Brazil-Argentina flight as loads for GIG-GRU-EZE is nowadays up to 82%.

Off-topic: The mayor has been received yesterday by RG staff in Rio de Janeiro but it seems that the decision keeps as a no (due to the lack of planes)
