Help Needed! Air France Baggage Restrictions?

Sat Aug 06, 2005 12:02 am

Some friends of mine are going to be travelling on Air France next week. Both of their flights are international flights. I checked Air France's site for baggage weight and size restrictions, and it turned out to be very vague, and didn't even give the needed facts. It said "Baggage weight and size limits are posted near Air France check-in counters." That Helps!  Yeah sure If anyone could give me the size, weight, and number of bags permitted, please reply. Thanks in advance!

Depending on from where to where the flights are, the baggage allowance will either be the piece concept (2 pieces with up to 32 kilos each per person) - that's if the US, Canada or (I think) Mexico are involved in the routing; or it will be the weight concept with either 23k (Economy), 30k (Business) or 40k (First) - Class Alizée, I think, has an allowance of 25k.

The routing is Houston-Paris-Moscow. Based on that can anyone give me a point-by-point table showing:

-Number of bags per person
-Max weight of each bag
-Max bag size

Thanks Leskova for the weight info!

Just read somewhere that KLM is reducing wieght allowance for N-America from 2 pieces of 32K to 2 pieces of 22K to bring it more in line with other routes. I presume AF has a similar allowance. Why is it by the way that transatlantic flights have a larger allowance than other routes?

Where did you find that concept?
In pretty sure that in economy, the allowance is 23Kg and you're allowed 5Kg more if you're a FF with Frequence Plus Blue

To my best knowledge AF has following policies on baggage for flight oringinating/destination in the US: 2 pieces with a maximum weight of 32kg per bag for a total of 64kg; 1 carry on plus a 1 small accessory bad (womens purse, laptop) both not exceeding 10kg.

The piece concept applies to transatlantic flights on most airlines and to, if any, connecting flights, when they are on the same ticket.

Baggage allowance on AF flights in economy has been reduced from 23kg to 20kg since October 19th, in line with the conditions set by most European airlines.

On that same date, AF introduced additional baggage allowances for its elite passengers, on routes where the piece concept does not apply :
- 5kg for Fréquence Plus Bleu passengers
- 10kg for Fréquence Plus Rouge passengers

With the upgrade to Fréquence Plus on June 6th, resulting from the takeover of KL by AF, these additional baggage allowances were extended :
- 5kg for Silver members (former Bleu)
- 10kg for Gold members (former Rouge)
- 20kg for Platinum members (former very frequent Rouge)

Is that for International or Domestic flights?

My guess is this won't make a diff. Most Eurocarriers don't distinguish much between domestic and international when it comes to luggage. Long haul is another matter.

I have an AF "CABINE" tag with me here (I love collecting stuff like this) and it says the following in french and english:

For your comfort and safety on board, bulky cabin bags are not allowed
1 carry-on only/size 115cm

I have been told by AF that it's 20kg in your luggage and 10kg in your hand luggage, but that was on a DUB-CDG-HAV route.

Let's start from the start:
What's standing on your friends' tickets or e-booking? That is where the correct information is displayed.
Air France's website does not give any information (rigthly or wrongly) due to the very many alternatives possible.

The one big problem I have found with many e-tickets is that most of the printouts/receipts DO NOT show the amount of baggage allowed.
