Thai Airways A340 IFE?

Tue Aug 09, 2005 9:39 pm

Hi Everybody,

Since I'm now for better or for worse... a melbourne boy, I was thinking of taking my significant other to Phuket for a long weekend, So I was wondering has anybody flown on the new Thai A346 yet? Im curious to know if they have PTV's in econ and if they do what they're like. AVOD etc?

Otherwise i'll probably stick with good old SIA.

Cheers

Hello LH!

I have not flown with the Thai A340-600, but according to the following thread: Thai Airways Direct To Auckland (by Eoinnz Feb 9 2005 in Civil Aviation), the Airbus has Video on demand in all classes.

"The Airbus will be in a 3-class config with:

8 First Class seats (80'' seat pitch, 180 degrees recline - flat horizontal beds, Video on Demand, PC Outlets, and the ability for the internet at a later stage)

60 Business Class seats (60'' seat pitch, 170 degrees recline - lie flat beds, Video on Demand, PC Outlets, and the ability for the internet at a later stage)

199 Economy Class Seats (34'' seat pitch, 6'' recline with footrests, Video on Demand, and access to PC Outlets)"

I've tried the new IFE on their retrofitted 747-400 which has the same IFE as A340-600. I can say one word: Fantastic.

You'll get AVOD system in all classes.

Good to hear, Thai had fallen behind most of its competitors as far as IFE was concerned....and while most pax do not chose a flight based on IFE, it is an important feature on longhaul flights and passengers travelling to/from destinations beyond BKK.

Lucky you then, I guess you weren't travelling in Y, since they haven't bothered to install PTV's, or have they actually?

Yes atleast TG have installed PTV's in the new A340's!

Nope. On 747-400, PTV's are installed/upgraded only for First and Biz. A340 will have PTV in all classes.

I was upgraded to F on that flight.

Well thanks for mentioning that guys, as I definatley WON't be getting the non-stop MEL-HKT service then as it is the 744.

If i take thai, it will be on the mightly 346.

Yeah, the 3pw MEL-HKT still operates with an old B744.

Only bummer about taking TG981/982 A346 is that you will have to overnight in BKK on the way up. Last flight BKK-HKT departs 21.40.... so you will miss it.
