Flight Report- Beijing, Shanghai, And Yunnan Area

Tue May 02, 2000 8:57 pm

Hello-

I got back from my 8th grade class trip to China on Saturday. I had a great time although I missed airliners.net. I am very pleased with the changes, thanks Johan   Anyways, here goes...

Tuesday, April 18: Flight No. NW087 DTW-PEK (Detroit-Beijing) Northwest Airlines 747-400 N????
This flight was very good. I had never flown Northwest Airlines international coach and I must say I was suprisingly pleased. The flight attendants were friendly and the food was okay. It was my first taste of real Asia. The flight lasted 12:59, but it certaintly wasn't the longest 13 hours of my life. I thought flying on the 747-400 would be like no experience ever, but nothing really was that special except for the take off and landing. It was cool though. Can someone help me with the registration number of this aircraft?

Saturday, April 22: Flight No. CA1403 PEK-KMG (Beijing-Kunming) Air China 767-200 B2554
This flight was okay. We didn't have a window, so we had extra leg room. The flight attendants were pretty mean, and the food was bad. Getting the western meal, I hoped for American fooid, but I got an omlette and sausage. The muffin was good. It was very bumpy and a copilot (I don't know if THE copilot) was in the cabin except for takeoff and landing. HMM... my ears didn't hurt on landing because we landed from a low altitude to a high altitude. We disembarked the aircraft off steps. I guess Kunming can't handle a 767-200...

Sunday, April 23: Flight No. 3Q4041 KMG-DLI (Kunming-Dali) China Yunnan Ailrines 737-700 B2639
THis flight was very nice. IT was my first flight on a Next Generation 737. The flight was only :45, so I watched the television screen mapping our flight cource, information, and time left. THey passed out little elephant key chains, that would never happen in America! Awesome! We were the only plane in Dali.

Nice report. I wish my 8th grade class could go, but were to cheap. Waiting for the next report......

I don't really like Air China either. I flew on their 763 when I was there on vacation last year. The flight attendants were very mean. They wouldn't even let me use the bathroom which really made me mad because I had to go badly. What the hell kind of service is that? Well, once we disembarked, I sprinted toward the bathroom in the terminal.

The Rest... Of The Story

Hey...

China Yunnan Airlines Flight No. 4412 Lijiang-Kunming Boeing 737-300 B2985
This flight was quick... so quick I spent my whole flight looking for the Discman I lost underneath the seat. The flight attendants were rude and they served one year old expired drinks! Our whole class threw a fit and they were very offended. They handed out elephant key chains. THe landing was abnother good one at a suprisingly busy airport. Hi Kunming (again)!

China Yunnan Airlines Flt. 3Q4541 KMG-SHA (Kunming-Shanghai) Boeing 767-300
THis flight was very quick for the length... about two hours and thirty minutes. It felt short compared to my 13 hour flight. Same expired drinks only the gift was different... a scarf. THey played a Lucy Ball movie, but tio my dissapointment, only in Chinese. The landing was pretty bumpy and I got some good shots of aircraft at the Shanghai (not Pu Dong) airport.

Northwest Airlines Flt. No. NW090 PVG-DTW (Shanghai Pu Dong-Detroit) Boeing 747-400 N????? (City Of Detroit)
THis flight was so short I don't even remember it! The same 13 hours, only I lost that much time from the time difference. Since I slept most of the time, I don't remember anything but the food. Teraki Chicken for dinner (Okay) and Fried rice for breackfast (ick), I was hoping for some American food, but no! Landed in Detroit. Happy to be back home.

Sorry for not writing back as soon as I said, they didn't let us use the computers at lunch and I had a lot of homework.

What did you think of Kunimng??? I was there in August and it was a very interesting City. Is the World Agricultural Expo still on?? That was neat looked like every country in the world had some kind of display and lots of food...

I was amazed at how new the airport was..(oh and yes the 767 can fit at a gate in Kunming) I remember that all internal flights that I was on in China were very bumpy and the landings were very hard....different flying style from that of the Canadian or other Western airlines. I flew on a China Wuhan 737-300 and an A320 but I can't remember the airline, as well as China Eastern Md11 (that was a really bad flight, TYPHOON, There is a post about it under the "scariest Flight ever topic) and Korean's A330 and 777. All in all travel in China was a very unique experiance and I would not hesitate to fly them again....

Hey-

I absolutley, positivley hated Kunming. It was so dirty. Our hotel had roaches in every room and one woman woke up with a lizard on her chest! (It was the Holiday Inn Kunming, supposedly the best in Kunming). Funny thing is, we were on the 15th floor. And when we told reception we had roaches, they had a "so what" attitude. But overall, it was a good experience.

No, I don't THINK the agricultural expo was still going on.

The fligts were VERY different and interesting.
