WN Paint Scheme Update - Shamu Moves To -700's

Wed Aug 10, 2005 8:07 am

Here is the latest on our paint/repaint schedule as it appeared in the last maintenance newsletter;

..."The month of June saw two new aircraft liveries enter our fleet. First was the new delivery of “Maryland One” on aircraft N714WN. Also introduced was the “Classic Dedication” paint scheme on aircraft N711HK. This paint scheme updates our Classic aircraft look with the brighter red and orange colors used on the “Spirit” aircraft, combined with a sparkling metallic gold on the upper fuselage. “The Herbert D. Kelleher” signature was also transferred to N711 during this repaint. N714CB and N792WN (the last Classic new delivery) will also receive this paint scheme, with both having “Southwest Classic” as a dedication at the nose of the aircraft.
The whales are on the move. In the coming months, two –700 aircraft will be repainted in the “Shamu” livery to replace the two –500 Shamu’s currently in the fleet. This move is being made to increase exposure for SeaWorld given that the –500s are now occupying the former –200 fence area. The –500 Shamu’s will be repainted in “Spirit” livery at their next repaint."

I wasn't aware of the "Southwest Classic" dedication or the subtle changes it will employ. I will be curios to see it.......Spotters keep an eye open!

Minor quibble, Maryland One is N214WN, not N714WN...  Wink

Hey Ryan  wave

Nice pics! I think WN uses a 700 on the ISP-LAS N/S route. Could that mean I have a better chance of seeing Shamu at Islip? I wouldn't mind getting that shot!

Wow, I hadn't seen it before. I have to admit, the old colors look kind of classy with the subtle change of tint and the lack of white trim around the windows. Thanks mucho for the link!

Offhand, what is the former 732 fence area in which the 735's now operate? Primarily intra-Texas?

Kind regards

That would explain why I saw a WN 737 at ROW last thursday.

Any particular reason for using the tail number of 711?
Was it Herbs favorite number, or could he not decide between the 7 or 11 year bottle of Jim Beam??

Probably the former, since he's a Wild Turkey drinker...  Wink

Yeah, I noticed that "The Herb" was a bit shinier the other day. But, more noticable was that "Banana One" aka "New Mexico One" got a repainting and is a much deeper color now.

How much does WN pay to have all of those planes with shamu, state flags, etc on them. They must be doing something right because they still make money  Big grin

I actually like this livery better than their now-standard canyon blue livery.
I'm assuming that, by now, all the interiors spot the new look w/leather seats (very classy look indeed). On a recent WN r/t, all 4 legs (3-733s & 1-73G, all gold/mustard livery) had the new interior treatment. Is that true?

Any word as to if the winglets got more than just gray this time around? I thought it looked kind of odd, but somehow, I couldn't come up with a way to do it better than the banana color.

She came in last week! This shot has no chance for the database but I'll show it anyway for those curious to see.

Also worth noting is that "Arizona One" recently got some new vibrant colors to replace that old, faded and peeling coat.

Do the aircraft get painted at one location like ROW? and how much longer do the 500's have till the shamu paintings are removed?

http://www.airliners.net/open.file/899314/M/

This shot was taken last Thursday at ROW and a WN 737 is in the upper right corner. If Dave is correct this should be AC#713. Man I can't wait to see it.

If that is 713 in the picture I would say it is not going to be Shamu. 713 was originally brown and due for some new paint. So I would say, whatever the new Shamu is goes in brown and comes out as Shamu.

A buddy of mine spotted it in LAS today. It is indeed aircraft #713. As of now, I shall see it at SAN tonight. Can't wait to see it. I heard it looks sharp.

New Mexico One is in DAL right now for its 5Y check. We take the winglets off for inspection and also so the paint shop can paint the "Southwest.com" logo on them. We took the winglets off, but they didn't get the logo. Just plain gray. Don't know the reason why. I'll have to ask the powers that be.

hey PHLBOS, so do I. I also like the Orange Southwest letters on a blue field in the new canyon blue but the straighter shape of the fuselage line makes this old design look better. Red and Gold isn't bad either! Lovely.

Which is a shame, maybe not the sharpest shot but very interesting from an artistic point of view. So what if the site doesn't take it but will take many boring shots? Be glad you shot this very interesting one  Smile

I'd like to photograph the old Shamus before they get repainted.. anybody who knows the routing for those two?
