TG President Suspended For 3 Months

Thu Aug 11, 2005 4:38 pm

His suspension by TG for losing money is too tough if to compare with AA, DL, NW financial performance. Hope TG will rebound soon.

Sounds like politics to me. TG is a sub-par airline already. Removing their President will allow for a further 3 months of in-decision.

Suspending the president of an airline because of losses? What's that supposed to improve?

Is this anything more than a PR stunt - enabling the airline to say "We're doing something about our losses - and we're 'punishing' those whom we hold accountable for them!"...

Strange move...

This is a very very very stupid move...

And it if is purely to play a PR game... investors in this region need to grow up and stop playing school master because this one isn't going to translate into profits.

If the guy is no good, they should have sacked him, paid his contract out and sought somebody who could do it. If he's fine, then they need to get on with the JOB. A COMPANY THAT LARGE WITH NO DIRECTION for 3 months is possibly doomed!

What message does that send to the staff? To other large companies dealing with it? That there is no captain steering this ship...or that we've got one so bad he doesn't know what the bloody hell he's doing?

Come on now ppl! This is serious!!!!!!!
My guess is however... there are more government politics involved in this than is being said...this doesn't sound like business... but it does sound very much like government.

They're behind MH and way behind SQ. Until they get these long promised new seats fitted in C then they'll continue to be a bit of a joke for long haul. Fly them to LAX in C for further confirmation.

For the first time in a very long time, TG has a new corporate identity, a couple of new aircraft and at least two new destinations in the offing . . . this is far more than what many of Mr Kanok Abhiradee's predecessors have achieved.

For the first time in a very long time, TG has a President who speaks great English, is very media savvy and seems to begin to be able to make some change. He has even begun grooming a group of management trainees to ensure consistency in management in the future.

Those who have had the opportunity to meet and talk to Mr Abhiradee will be struck by his sincerity and intelligence. Incidentally, he did not come from an aviation background and quickly learnt the tricks of the trade so well you could not tell his career was founded outside of the aviation / travel & tourism industries.

Thai Airways International - like other airlines in Asia - has had to struggled with SARS and the Iraq War in 2003, Bali Bombing in 2002, with bird flu and with the downturn in travel to some parts of Thailand as a result of the Dec 26, 2004 tsunami. All this time, it faced the twin onslaught of LCCs and higher fuel costs and all around it, airlines such as MH, SQ and CX continually upgraded their products. Mr Abhiradee held the fort well and provided great leadership in a very tough operating environment.

This is a very sad development and I personally with BestWestern in Reply 1.

I use Asian airlines (SQ, CX, KE, TG, CZ, CA, PR) and occasionally NW quite a bit in my asian travel. Admittedly, TG cabin fixtures may not be as favorable as SQ and CX. But lately, they're slowly upgrading their cabin to higher standards. I have no comment on C since I normally fly J. I find their food and beverages comparable to SQ, CX and the fare is a bit lower.

Cheers

C and J are both Business Class; F would be First, Y is Economy.

I fly economy in TG and quite like it - the leg space is great, the flights are on time, and the food is good. There's no IFE, but I don't care too much about that anyway. Of course I cringe each time I walk past their business class seats, they seem only slightly better in pitch than economy! But their economy product is quite good - definitely better than many other European/American airlines.

TG compare to Malaysian, Air NZ, Singapore, Korean, ANA???... pull the other one. They compare Favourably to Biman and Pia.

I had the misfortune to fly Thai Business class in April. Apalling is the only word to describe the service. TG have slowly upgraded their cabin for the last five years, and its going nowhere. Their Intercontinental C cabins are a joke, the food is not Business Class standard, and the so called Thai personal service was sadly absent. Never again. Luckily the 744 in business was only half full.

For me - see my signature, Thai rank down there with Olympic in terms of quality.

Agree with 100%.

Thai is a disgrace. Don't ever fly the 744's to LAX. Never. The 743's BKK-SYD is even worse. Actually the 2-4-2 in J on the 777-200's ranks up there. But wait the MD-11's are probably even worse.
