About SR/SN Flights To Kinshasa

Wed May 03, 2000 5:37 am

It may be a silly question but do the crews of these flights stay in congo or do they immediately fly back as passengers. The replacement crew would come from the huge crew bank in the back of the Md11s that fly to Kinshasa.

They stay there. I am pretty sure. It is against SRs policy to have crews on flight for the return because of jetlag and lack of rest. Anyway it is nearly cheaper to have them stay ina hltel instead of using the seats.
Being on the plane would be considered as "on duty" anyway!

I was thinking about teh war in congo. Arent these flight attendants in danger? I know SR suspended flights to Kinshasa during the rebels assault to the city.
For what is these crew bank then? It easily occupies the space of 30 seats.

Believe me. It is huge. I believe they only have it in one MD11. It is equal to those which will be found on the new 777x.

The SNflight makes a stopover in Kinshasa so they don't stay in Kinshasa. The final stop is in Luanda, I believe. So they don't have to stay there during the war.

The SR flight to Kinshasa (SR 276) stops in Yaoundé. I think they perhaps change crew in Yaoundé. First crew makes ZRH - Yaoundé, second Yaoundé - Kinshasa - Yaoundé. In this case the crews have to stay in Yaoundé and not in Kinshasa. I don't know if this would be better.
