10,000 CO Employees Support EZE Service

Fri Aug 12, 2005 12:47 am

Interesting report showing that CO has officially submitted its DOT application to start service to a new destination: EWR-IAH-EZE B762ER:

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050810/daw014.html?.v=24

CO is competing for this DOT application with DL, which wants to start JFL-EZE flights.

10,000 of CO's employees, 1/4 of the total, have supported CO's DOT application. If successful, EZE would become CO's 57th destination served from IAH in Latin American and the Caribbean.

Anyone knows whether CO or DL will get it?

Rgs,

CO makes a slightly better case, opening a new hub and route to Argentina, while DA's me-too proposal from JFK would make them the third airline on that route. DOT, however, might be in a punitive mood since CO never implemented their last award of an EZE route.

And DL lost the PVG route too right? or was that PEK? Would that have any influence?

No, that's not old. Though that also wasn't the topic header until you edited it afterwards.

It was part of the text's body.

Apparently AR will change its JFK and operate it with a stop-over in MIA (JFK-MIA-EZE). The flight is not daily. AA offers daily JFK-EZE flights.

Every CO employee should support the application. The route shouldn't have trouble making money. Where are the other 75%?

Hola Hardi!  Smile

They already do this due to "lack of equipment" I guess. Not all of the JFK flights are non-stop.

Now, what I don't seem to get is why CO waited so much to ask for its "share of frequencies" to EZE.
Another thing, is still why is the UA Chicago service is not considered as dropped. It would really help other airlines (read, DL) to start service from JFK. I believe the loads on ORD-EZE-ORD don't help at all, am I right?

So, EZE will have direct flights to JFK(2), MIA, DFW, IAH, IAD, ORD and ATL?

Is the market that big?

"10,000 employees support the route" refers to a letter writing campaign in which 1/4 of all CO employees actually sent one in. It's really a very high level of participation for a letter writing campaign.

According to LAN, it is. And I believe there's still room for more, and when LAN Argentina starts service (if they ever get there with the legal actions the government is taking on them), there will be more carriers serving these routes.

ATL - DL
MIA - AR, AA
DFW - AA
IAH/EWR - CO
JFK - AR, AA
IAD - UA
ORD - UA (dropped seasonally)

Cheers! wave

heack yeah. All the planes are in a load factor of 80+.Tourism is flourishing like never before with the currency exchange.
I have a store near downtown, and heck if I get a lot of Americans. The Toronto flight is also doing quite well.
All of this helps also to the inter-Argentina routes, as almost all the tourists go to patagonia.

I love BsAs.....I was there In June. I love the place (even before the strong dollar) and I hope to retire there. I have been there a few times and one time on the way down I sat next to Robert Duvall who has a ranch down there and loves it as much as I do.

Man, are the girls good looking in Argentina. You have to see it to believe it. And, DFW is 30 min away so BsAs is a short 9 hours or so from me.

como andan che? todo bien?

I don't have the actual numbers, but as mentioned, Argentina is now experiencing an almost unprecedented (foreign) touristic boom. It has been constantly growing since the devaluation adn since things calmed down (although there are still many problems Sad ). Never before have I experienced running into so many foregin tourists, aside Brazilians, who have always had BA as a destination. You meet many Americans, British, Italians, and TONS of Spanish. And that's just in BA, I imagine turistic landmarks such as Iguazu to be full as well. So yes, there is a market no doubt!
