AA MD80 Seat Configurations

Fri Aug 12, 2005 4:12 am

On aa.com American lists three possible MD80 seat configurations seating either 129 or 131 passengers. My question is which is the more common (i.e. which one are there more aircraft of in the fleet) of the two seating totals, 129 or 131? I take it one of these configs came from TW?

As far as I know, all AA MD80s are now F16Y120, including the ex-TWA planes which have now all had their interiors at least partially modified to match AA's configuration.

They are indeed all F16 Y120. The reconfiguration of the cabins was completed recently, and all -80s now have the same capacity. The strange thing is the TWA config of F16 Y115 has not been around for some time... it went to the AA standard F14 Y115 long ago. Definately time to update that page.

The only major difference now, which can still help you tell an ex-TWA bird from the inside is the position of the first class lav. On the ex-TWA birds the lav is just aft of the entry door, with a closet aft of that. The AA birds have a closet aft of the entry door and the lav is aft of the closet.
