Flights are not 24 hours a day, but you can enter schiphol 24 hours a day. However, when there are no flights airside is closed of as well for a few hours. Those that are airside can of course stay, but when you are landside you won't get in.

this is not true. When you have got am airside authorisation (schipholpas) you are allowed to enter airside 24/7.

Hello all,

OK, so I can enter the airport at any time.

Here is the thing, my brother is living in BRU, but since the cheapest flight to BTS is via AMS (SkyEurope) he needs to leave BRU late in the evening.

I was looking for trains to leave early in the morning, but the earliest arrival to AMS is at 10:40, but his flight leaves AMS at 10:30.

One of the options was either to get a hotel, but I do not know any prices for overnight stay OR to wait in the airport uintil the morning.

Thanks for help,
Andrej

You can wait in the terminal no problem at all. You'd probably have to wait landside, and the benches there are not comfortable (slept there twice) but for one night that should be no problem.

On the left side of the terminal (when looking towards airside) there are lockers in which you can put your valuables. Not sure how much they charge for them, but it is not terribly expensive.

Landside at least one of the bars is open 24 hours a day.

I'd recommend going airside before it closes (2230 if KL753 operates that day, otherwise a bit earlier) then looking for one of the good long chairs to sleep.

Chairs can be found next to gate D41 and E24 for example. Free showers (take your own soap and towel!) in the restroom right where the entrance to Lounge 41 is (upstairs and left from casino).
I wish that all skies were orange and blue!!

If for any reason you leave the aiport and wish to return later, be advised that after midnight until 04:00 you will have to present either a valid flight ticket/confirmation or valid train ticket/confirmation. Otherwise Schiphol is closed to everyone other than passengers already inside the terminal who will be leaving by flight/train at the earliest opportunity and of course staff.

The airport is open 24/7. Usually there are no departures between about 23.30 and about 4.30. There are arrivals throughout the night though. Between 00.00 and 4.00 the plaza is closed for people who have no business there, wich is basically to keep the homeless from living there all the time.. It not really closed, as there are early passengers, arrivals, and the train station wich has train troughout the night, On the plaza all shops are open from about 6am till 11pm, on airside it varies so all departing passengers in a specific area can do shopping (at least thats the idea) and some bars airside are open 24/7.
Hope that helps..

Hello all,

thanks for your replies. My brother is buying an online ticket, via SkyEurope's web-page. Would that be enough for him to get to airside part of AMS or does he actually needs boarding pass? If he needs boarding pass than I guess he will have to stay on landside since his flight does not leave until 10:30 and he should arrive around 23:00 previous night.

I just hope that he will not have any issues with police or security and they will try to kick him out say around 03:00 into the streets. It sucks that there is no later or earlier train to AMS from Brussels!

Well anyways, I think that this might be the cheapest and probably worst way to spend a night, but hey he is a college student........ and I am not traveling.  Smile

Cheers,
Andrej

Hey Andrej, we're talking about Amsterdam here my friend. There's plenty to do, if you want to avoid boredom. And from Schiphol, you can get a train to almost anywhere in the country. At night time the trains run from Rotterdam via Leiden, then Schiphol and Amsterdam and then onto Utrecht. The "Nachtnet" runs throughout the night and I can even recommend a few pubs in Utrecht if the fancy takes you!! 45mins by train and you're there. May as well use the time constructively while he's there.

Best of luck
