They have it posted on our employee site...a preview picture but you can only see a very small portion of the fuselage....it's got a dark blue bottom with red strip above it and the top is silver/gray with wavy lines like the HP scheme....hehe...they are teasing us.

There is also some buzz floating around that then new company will "Honor the company's of the past" So the guess is that there will be possibly special liverys of PSA, Piedmont, the early America West, and others.

I believe that a complete re-branding is in order. No hybrids of the current AWA and US schemes. A corporate re-indentity should be done right with a completely fresh new look representing a fresh start for the newly combined carrier.

I do think that USAiways should keep the Blue/Red/White(Gray) color scheme.. anything else and they should change the name.. how can an airline with the name US in it NOT have Red/White/Blue.. so I believe that it will be a hybrid of the two.. with the R/W/B colors..

I kind of like the wavy lines, should be interesting to see the real product when it comes out! It would be smart to have something totally new but still resembling the past products to a little extent.

No idea what tail number is getting painted or where. Not sure if it is a US Airways or America West aircraft either. It's probably some plane that will be coming out of a heavy check soon.

FlyBoy, how are you accessing Compass right now?
I've been trying to log on all morning, and it's been down for 'routine maintenence 'till 12:00 MST.

Grrr... this always has to happen at the worst times! To make things worse, my vacation starts on the 23rd, so I won't be anywhere near that aircraft if it gets into PHX at 6:30-ish.

Can't wait to see it!!! I second that I'd LOVE to see our theme planes in paint schemes with Piedmont, Allegheny, PSA, and the 'old' America West flying around to show our history.

That would be a nice homage to all of the predecessors that have morphed into the new USAirways. PSA's smile would be a welcome sight to behold...

Since no one else posted it, the full text from US Airways Today which also hits on the focus on the company's heritage...

US Airways and America West to introduce new livery

US Airways and America West Airlines will introduce new aircraft livery for the combined company on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Employees are invited to join Chairman, President and CEO Doug Parker, and President and CEO Bruce Lakefield as the first plane with the new look, an Airbus A320, makes its inaugural tour.

Events are scheduled in Philadelphia at 7 a.m., Pittsburgh at 9:30 a.m., Charlotte at 12:30 p.m., Las Vegas at 3:45 p.m., and Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. All times are local.

As we celebrate this important milestone, we look back on the 65 years of US Airways history -- and 22 years of America West history -- that make up our companies today and that we will carry forward into the new US Airways.

On Monday, we asked if those of you who worked for Allegheny, PSA or Piedmont, kept your old uniforms. Today we add a follow-up question: Can you still fit into your uniform? If so, congratulations! We need you!

If you have a couple of days off, and would like to be a part of this historic journey, we are looking for employees from the vanguard carriers to volunteer to travel with the newly painted aircraft -- in uniform. That means pilots, flight attendants, gate agents, fleet service, utility and other uniformed employees. US Airways will be represented by the flight crew staffing the flight.

If you are interested, please e-mail your name, original carrier, contact information, and where you reside to USNEWS@usairways.com. We hope you will be willing take a walk down memory lane while flying into the future on Aug. 23.

More details of this event will be provided as the day draws closer.

I really like the alleged new livery! I can't wait to see pics online!!

I was beginning to give up on US, which is sad, because I really like their "feel" - very corporate. (I've had no real access to HP living in South Carolina, so I really don't have an opinion of them). But, it seems like this merger is the best thing for all concerned, and it just "feels' like they're thinking this thing out and not just reacting after the fact. GO US/HP!!!
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

There is one thing I don't like about this. USAirways chose to make this announcement three days after Air Wisconsin started flying. We just had three airplanes repainted in the old scheme per their request, which makes no sense if they are about to change the scheme. This means that three Air Wisconsin planes will be in the old scheme, the other 67 will be in the new scheme. Why they just didn't announce this in time for all our airplanes to get the new paint I don't know.

The reason may be the same lack of proper planning and organizational skills on the behalf of US Airways mgmt, which is why they are in Ch.11?

Hopefully Air Wisconsin folks will work more with mgmt in Tempe in the future.

Assuming no one paints until planes are in for m/x that would require repainting anyway, S5/MidAtlantic and PS will be in the same boat due to their recent deliveries... Embraer isn't going to repaint the 170s sitting in Brazil waiting for delivery.

So the AmericaWest name is officially done with, it's all going to be US Airways all the way now?

The HQ will still be a KPHX?

Will the alliances that US Airways had in tact with United and the Star Alliance still be in tact after the merger?

Where will all the people working at the US Aiways HQ go?

I could see how this could be looked at as a downfall. But if you think about its a good thing. must of us here on A.net(me included), seem to think that there are a lot of US employess who do not care about the job or the company. If these dedicated employees show themselves. It demonstrates to all of us that there are employees out there who are with the company through and through, and believe this merger is the beginning of a new future.

***

I'll be the first to admit this time last year i was giving US 2 months to live, and here they are one year later; taken over by HP mgmt (lived in PHX 8 yrs, so kinda a HP fan), and redesigning themselves. Sounds like they will finally become a viable airline in the 21st century, something most majors are finding difficult to do.

I live in RI, and would love to drive down to PHL to see the new plane (as it is my day off), anyone out there from PHL area know of a good spot to watch the plane t/o? maybe even get a few good pics of the bird as it departs for PIT? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the info, I had resumes out with both US Airways and AmericaWest and as I just found out the other day may soon have an interview with AmericaWest (which sounds like it will soon be US Airways et al.) Thanks for the intel.

P.S. - Just noticed they already have a lot of the merger stuff on AmericaWest's website, including a great new route map of what it will look like once the merger is complete!

Tony:

We have Hog Island Rd at PHL. It circles the southern perimeter of the airport and passes near the ends of all the runways (except 17 which is commuter stuff only and not commonly used). I and possibly another PHL spotter will be out there to get it departing. It'll depart most likely on 27L, or on 9L if the winds happen to be from the east that day (not usually). In either case both spots are good for photography.

The area is easily accessible from I-95 south using the Enterprise Ave/Island Ave exit. As you exit I-95 follow straight down the road until you get to the first stop sign. Make a left there and you'll be on Hog Island Rd. Just follow it around some twists and turns and you'll hit the main spotting areas. The 27L and 9L departure areas are about 3 miles apart, so depending on which it departs on you'll have to drive a differant distance down the road. E-Mail me through my profile if you need any more info.

I think Big Foot is blurry, Its not the photographers fault. Theres a large out of focus monster roaming the countryside
