DL506 Crew Today

Mon Aug 15, 2005 1:43 am

Here's a question. I rode on DL506 today. 08H30 departure ATL-LGA, 767-300. At 8:00 (planned boarding time) they announced that the f/a's had landed at 7:40 and were deplaning at a "B" gate, we were at "A-18" so we'd take a 15 minute delay.

At 8:15 the announcement said that "the f/a's we're waiting for, in fact, were supposed to work the 9:30 trip and not the 8:30 so they're trying to 'round them up', including paging them by name" (sort of made me laugh).

A crew came and we left only about 25 minutes late.

Here's my questions:
How could flight ops not have advised the gate if there was a crew issue earlier?
What happened to the original crew? I looked at the arrivals board for a late arrival but there weren't any.

Very strange.

Ultimately it was fine and eventless flight, except for that lousy tow to gate 3 at LGA which always annoys me.

Can anyone help me out with an answer to this? I'm curious.

DL has standby cabin crews in CVG and ATL I know for sure, and likely other places (JFK/SLC/MCO, etc.).

Maybe a decision was made to pull in the standby crew instead of using the planned crew.

No, wasn't a standby crew, was the crew for the flight an hour later they 'paged.'

Having landed at 07.40 they would then have taxied, disembarked all the passengers including the passenger needing assistance which may have had to wait for an escort to help them thru the airport (whenever there is a tight turnaround this happens). then complete their checks then get transport across to the next aircraft and then set it up for departure. You would be surprised where the time goes 07.40-08.30 with a aircraft change is pretty tight and I'm not surprised you took a delay
