Yeah, I'd heard that AA trademarked the Canadian Eagle name, but they need to find a partner to buy it. That rumour has been around a while.
I have also heard a rumour that First Air was looking at buying it. I would think that would be backed by AC if AC gets another bidder actually wanted it as then AC could keep the feed and have their partnership with 7F expand. But that's just my speculation to add to the First Air rumour.
On the topic of news about Canadian Regional, there was an TV interview today with Mr. Collenette, Minister of Transport, who said it would indeed have to be offered for sale, although the unions representing CRAL had stated today that they wanted that conditions scrapped. Actually CRAL employees have been very vocal about wanting to come to AC's regionals, so much so that I've even heard talk about their employees discussing ways of scuttling any deal.
Also interesting in the mess with BA's allegations there was mention in the papers today that they were looking at possible Canadian partners and I believe they said they may announce something in 4 to 6 weeks. Having heard nothing from CanJet in a while, it wouldn't surprise me if AA and BA were talking to IMP Group, but that's just my thoughts. I don't think WJ would be possible because it flies to YHM, but an upgraded version of Royal or Canada3000 could also be of some interest, although they would need to change their strategy a lot to go that way. If oneworld offered them a really good commercial agreement, though....
