Look Out For Something Big By Delta

Thu May 04, 2000 6:28 am

Looking at the DFW airport web site and they are talking about ASA's build up at DFW.Of course if they are adding flights Delta is sure to follow.I know that someone put a post about this a month or two ago but I just wanted to let people know that things are taking shape.Maybe Delta can go over the 200 mark as far as daily flights.

Are there enough gates on E concourse for DL to rev up to that level?

As I also mentionned in the previous post, AF/DL will inaugurate a nonstop flight from CDG to DFW either this winter or from next year ! Air France and Delta will codeshare on the flight. No aircraft type has been mentionnedbut it shouldn't be bigger than an A340 to start with.
AF and DL have a very good codesharing policy over the atlantic. they codeshare on every route to and from France with the USA but to Newark, Miami and Houston. These are codeshared with CO.

Happy Flying,

with the number of gates they already have Delta can handle 200 daily flights easily.

Where will ASA, Comair, and Air France park? Does AeroMexico operate out of Delta gates?

I could say that if Delta wants to open their express airlines, there would be an options that the airlines could build their express terminal just south of Terminal E just like American Eagle had open their own terminal north of Terminal A along side of American Airlines.

Most of the DL employees Ive talked with at DFW have stated that this expansion will be mostly from ASA and very little from DL itself so far. They said that their market share has dropped quite a bit as AA has expanded at DFW. This is something that they have been looking at very close, however they said that they dont want to scale back any of the other hubs to beef up DFW, and there just isnt enough planes to do that right now. So right now they can gain a little more market share with the ASA CRJs. The new AF flight next spring should help them , and it will park at DLs terminal at DFW. Also they said that DL may fly the new 767-400 on the DFW-HNL flight, replacing the L-1011.

Delta barely has enough planes to fill the routes they have now. I believe a new LAX-JFK run was delayed 2 months because they didn't have enough 767-300ERs. Right now the 777-200s are running full with over bookings between ATL & Florida as well as over the Atlantic.

Dfw-man's DFW Pic

Thu May 04, 2000 10:18 am

In eyeballing DFW man's picture of DL's DFW terminal I notice a couple of things:

1) I'm not sure DL could expand their terminal to the south. Isn't their catering or cargo center just to the south. And I believe the cross-airport taxiways are also in the way.

2) It looks like Dfw-man's flight (is that an MD-80) had a long takeoff roll. Most flights departing runway 17R are higher than that upon passing DL (17R is 13,401', and DL's terminal is close to 10,000' down that runway)...just an observation.

Since Delta cut back on DFW service, didn't they give up many of their gates to other airlines? I believe Northwest moved into their terminal, and in their inflight magazine it shows gates 1-8 as not being Delta gates. Does anybody know about this?

On a related note . . .
I keep hearing persistent rumors that Delta will dismantle it's SLC hub following the 2002 Olympics. Does anyone know this to be true or not? And if so, any speculations as to whether this is related to the proposed build-up at DFW? If Delta does indeed take down SLC, will they seek to establish another Western hub in a more profitable O/D market (DEN, LAX?), or will they focus their attention on DFW?

I hope that Delta doesn't diamantle the SLC hub. SLC is a joy to connect through. Although, if it wasn't for the Olympics and if I was Delta's CEO I would move the SLC resources to DFW and Ontario, California.

RE: DL's Terminal E

Fri May 05, 2000 7:40 am

NW and Airtran share Terminal E with Delta and partner Aeromexico. FL has gate 2, NW has 4-6, and DL/ASA/Aeromexico have 7-38 (There is no gate 1 or gate 3). DL/ASA could have 200 flights into DFW if they had 6 banks, and if they weren't concentrating on ATL mostly.
Create your own luck.

The little peninsula in the picture, if I am not mistaken is solely ASA flights now, with all of the jetways taken off. ORD is correct, Northwest as well as AirTran are in Terminal E at DFW, I think those are gates 1-8 (?).

If Delta's planes are so full why don't they get some bigger a/c--like a 777-300, or even a couple of 747-400?

Regarding the comment about the long takeoff roll, I've seen a lot of the smaller jets at DFW do that. It must be because the runway is so long and the can acheive higher altitudes quicker that way. Oh, and Delta is getting many more aircraft, they signed a deal with Boeing to purchase like 120 a/c.
