Gmtv / Helios And The Future Of The 737

Wed Aug 17, 2005 3:02 am

Hi,

Sorry if this has been brought up already - I'm in a rush...

For people in the UK, GMTV are running a special programme tomorrow (Wed 17 August) on the Helios crash and what the future holds for the Boeing 737!

No doubt more journalistic crap - but it's on just in case any one wants to get up early.

Bloody journalists.
"The future of the 737" indeed! Sensationalism at its worst!

I'll be watching this and if its anything but a fair commentary, it will be complained about.

Was on my way home from work today and a Helios 737 was on finals into MAN, certainly was weird seeing that tail for the first time since the crash, such a vivid image.

How can this crash determine the future of the B737 there have been others, and unfortunatly there will still be others, this is such a large family of aircraft.

Utter rubbish!

Helios Airlines who knows...

As for the Boeing 737, this accident will probably effect little. Much of the aircraft's reliability and safety depends on how well (or how poorly) the opperator maintains the aircraft. Failure of the aircon/O2 system could easily be caused by improper maintenance, which wouldn't affect the global fleet of 737 being properly maintained.

Unless the investigation uncovers a flaw in the aircraft design, the 737 line will probably be unaffected.

Right, and even then, what are the odds that a flaw in this aircraft would have propagated to the 737NGs?

This sort of thing only gets people worried about flying unnecessarily. Of course they will never mention the fact, that since that crash in Greece, tens of thousands of people were delivered safely to their destinations in 737's. The 737 has an enviable safety record and it's future is assured for as long as Boeing continues to build them and that could be for a very long time.
I have no memory of this place.
