Doug, thanks for the info. It should be ready in five years from now, I think. With the additional gate facility at Concourse K and Terminal 4 next to 3, it looks like American is planning to add more flighs out of O'Hare. O'Hare is a big hub for American you know? With the addition of Terminal 6 in the international arrivals, I wouldn't be surprised to see American adding more international flights to and from ORD. Although Chicago O'Hare is United's biggest hub, American may become the most important airline there. I say that because American is becoming very strong at ORD, look how many international flights they have, they have at least as many if not more than United, look where the expansions are going, they are planned around American's concourses and the international arrivals, not in United's terminal. I'm convinced that the new Terminal 4 will be partly used by American, if not completely. Is American planning to add more gates at its terminal in Concourse K? Yes. Is United planning to add more gates at its terminal in concourse B or C? No. There is bright future for American at O'Hare.

American isn't growing as much as this makes it look. United and it's Star partners are taking over/moving into Terminal 2, kicking such carriers as Northwest, Continental, and America West, who have limited flights to ORD, into Terminas 4. So it appears that both United and American will gain quite a few gates, and a lot more internation potential, but I wouldn't start pushing United out of the top spot at ORD yet. At least this has been the news lately... but by the time construction is done, who knows???

Here is a brief wrap-up of the article that accompanied the diagram seen in the earlier post:

Terminal One (Concourses B & C): No changes will remain solely for United and Alliance Pals

Terminal Two (Concourses E & F): Complete renovation and construction of FIS
All current airlines(NWA, TWA, CAL, US, AWA) will be kicked out and United will be the sole occupant

Terminal Three (Concourses G, H, K): No major changes will remain solely for American and Alliance Pals. K will have a few extra gates added.

Terminal Four (Brand New): This new terminal will destroy the 10 gate Concourse L where American and Delta currently reside. The new terminal will have FIS and be solely used by American

Terminal Five (Concourse M): This will remain the Int'l terminal however American and United won't need to use it any more since they will have their own FIS stations. Without UAL or AMR, there will be lots of space for new Int'l service on other foreign airlines

Terminal Six (Brand New): Here is where all the displaced domestic airlines will be housed. Delta, NWA, Continental, TWA, USAirways, America West and all others.

The price tag for all this and the other improvements..... 3.2 Billion Dollars. What a bargain!!!! However, without an additional runway....I don't think adding 30-40 more gates is really a great idea.

Don't be so sure! It is not fair to assume that UAL will lose out on its own home turf. UAL has two distinct advantages: historically, it has always had around 10% more market share (although the figure has fluctuated around it). Also, UAL has a *long* history with the city and its citizens and companies. Yes, I realize that AA has not be allowed to fully compete, with the slot situation and all, but UA will fight to the bone to defend its own home. After all, wouldn't you defend your own HOME? Hey, just take a look at how AA has reacted against the tiny threat Legend poses!

P.S. While AA may have more international flights our of ORD, it is because it serves as their European gAAtewAAy... whereas UA has IAD to serve the same purpose. UA has more flights out of ORD to Canada, Asia, and Latin America -- it's more of a "worldly" hub for UA.

American 767-

American is not going to have the type of bright future that United is going to have at O'Hare.
You need to check where you got your info on the new terminals and expansions at ORD because United, along with their Star Alliance partners are going to be moving into Terminal 2 once the new Terminal 6 is built. Furthermore, Terminal 2 is going to have an additional 15 gates after they redevelop the concourse area. American may have more international flights out of O'Hare right now, but that will change in the next 2 years. The slot restrictions have been lifted and United is going to increase their international service out of ORD. American will have to cut some of their international and domestic flights out of O'Hare because they will not be competitive with United. In my opinion, United should've been allowed to take over Terminal 2 before American was allowed to take over Concourse G because United carries more passengers and has more flights in and out of ORD than American. The airlines(except for United) that are presently in Terminal 2- Concourse E and F- should have been moved into Concourse G to give United more gate and terminal space. But now, the tables are turning because United is going to get the slot, terminal, and gate space they need to serve the people of Chicago better.

Overall, United owns O'Hare and we will not let American come into our house and push us around!

GO United!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
