Lagos Airport Maps/Diagrams

Wed Aug 17, 2005 11:49 am

Hey there  veryhappy

I just joined up today, and was reading an older thread about a member that has maps and/or diagrams of the Lagos airport. Would love to see them and any pics taken there. Used to live in Lagos, and have always been fascinated with that airport experience!  Smile

Hi,

I'm a fan of airports of the world. it's very difficult to find something interresting about lagos airport. So few weeks ago I sent a message on this forum to try to obtain some good photos but it was very compliquely and without any answer.

So i can help you with some photos I have in my archives.
Please contact me : irene.girardeau@9online.fr

go to this address:

Indeed. As someone who has survived 2 trips through LOS (mid 90s), LOS is certainly an experience. That said as I indicated, my last trips through LOS was in the mid 90s, so perhaps things have improved. However after reading several reports here and elsewhere, things have only gotten worse.

Hey all,

I lived in LOS for 7 years from the mid-90's to 2000 and I would say that things have dramatically improved. If you need any info, you can just leave a question here, and I'd be happy to answer it.

A few things have been added such as a new BA lounge, and new business lounge, as well as some duty free shops and new carpet.

A side note is that they've opened a movie theater there as well, which was a pleasant shock when I heard it.

By the way PlaneFreak, which part of town did you live in? I lived on the north side of Ikoyi.

Thanks,

Don't leave me out of this, I was living in VI for several months, very close to the Chinese Embassy  Smile

Regarding LOS, I went through the airport a few times during 2004, so I can´t compare it to any other year, but as I'm sure things have, and will continue to improve, for someone who is not expecting it, LOS can be a real experience. Just as an example, for my AZ flight to MXP, i arrived for what I though was an early check-in, approx 3.5 hours prior to scheduled departure time and guess what, check-in was over, and it was total chaos by the counters, with people almost beating up some poor AZ agent! I had a chat with the AZ manager based there but he could do nothing except confirm a seat for me on the next available flight ... 3 days later! Big grin
As I said, a real experience!

regards

Hey Ezeiza,

Yeah, that is one surprise, it is best to check-in in the morning and then come back at night. The scary thing is that one person can check in for a whole group. But it is best to check-in in the morning or at the airline office. Also, always remember to confirm at least 48 hours before. This can also be done by the company with which you work, or through your travel agent. Sorry for the experience, but heh, that's Lagos. Have you ever wondered how many ppl live out on the water by the lagoon?

Thanks,

That's true, never thought of it that way  Smile

No1, regrding my flight, I had confirmed 48 hrs prior, but nothing could be done! All i did was enjoy 3 more days in the city (another weekend, so no problems  Smile ) and the day of my departure I arrived to the airport 6 hours early Big grin
The other thing that was odd was that we had to confirm our luggage was by the plane before boarding. We had to go down some stairs, find our bags that were already checked in but we had to confirm they were there. And of course give the person working there a few Naira just in case. Is this common practice at LOS or is it an AZ thing? In any case, the flight was then uneventfull (LOS-ACC-MXP-MAD) and no missed luggage, so everything was great  Smile

been thru lagos airport on a numerous occations in the late 80s 90s and 2004/2005 it has certainly improved but still lacks behind. i have got some pictures of the terminal inside. all coming up in a trip report (waiting for the return flight). aiprot is in general clean but lacks the basics such as the restrooms as filthy with no electricity supply.
Next destinations, Suarabaya, beirut, paris, Accra

I used to live on Ikoyi as well! Lived on Mekwuen (spelling?) Road - off Awolowo (spelling?) Road.

When we would fly out of Lagos in the late 80s, they would not open the check-in counters until the plane actually landed, so didn't matter what time you got there.

Myaviation.net has got some really awesome new photos of Lagos - that one posted here is really cool of the airport - never get to see any like that!

Does anyone have an airport diagram of the airport showing the layout of the runways, taxiways, terminals, etc.?
