Boeing Order's Summary For 08/16/2005

Fri Aug 19, 2005 12:14 am

HEre's the weekly order summary. The 20 737 ufo were identified for RBS Aviation Capital. One more 777 UFO and UPS's 747 order is also listed. Not too much activity this week. Let's see what the post-Labor Day months bring!

We do know that the 5 listed earlier as UFO's are 773ERs. There seems to be general supposition that these are for AF (or KL). The additional UFO 777 is intriguing.

Actually what was announced in the press was for 42 We are still waiting to hear about China Southern's 10 and Hainan's 8.

Is this already a record year for Boeing as far as orders are concerned? If not, given that there are still four months left they must surely be on the cusp of breaking their order record. Unfortunately, their reports site combines orders from MD so it's not relatively easy to segregate their orders in 1995 (or was it 1996?), the last time they had orders in this range of numbers.

Edit: The record for net orders stands at 600 in 1998 (650 gross), with 2000 being in second with 590 net orders. Not that far to go anymore to break that record Big grin .

I assume we'll see the same for the 20 "undisclosed" A320 Series listed on the Airbus spreadsheet when they next update it.

UPS's 747 order is also listed

Surprisingly quick by comparison to the A380 order. Booked the day after announcement. Why is it taking UPS so long to "firm" their A380F order?

Quoting NYC777 (Thread starter):
Not too much activity this week.

Just the largest 747 "firm" order of the year and Pegasus, a new direct customer, ordering 6 738s. That's substantial activity no matter what sir.

True. But does anyone have an idea how long this deal was cooking on the stove before the announcement?

Not much activity this week?

Well, UPS 744F order is the best news of all Boeing orders this whole year so far! Any clue who is behind the other UFO 744 orders?

Because that order for 60 787s was nothing, apparently.

Lots of rumors concerning the UPS A380, would start a war if I was to repeat it....

Fair point. If we go back to Farnborough 2004 Mr Mulally was quoted as seeing "upward pressure" on 747 demand. UPS then ordered the A380F at the start of this year. One year on we now have a clearer picture of the demand that Mr Mulally alluded to. However, given the timing, I don't feel that he was expecting UPS as one of those customers. So IMHO I feel UPS went with this only over the past few months.

As evidenced by the Chinese 787 order it can take 6-7 months before some LoI's are firmed. I assume the same applies to UPS with their A306F cancellation and A380F order. No doubt a complex deal to negotiate but I'd have thought it would be finalised by now.

The same order that was for 2/3s confirmed last week? The order for 42 is firm, regardless of whether the order is on the Boeing page yet, but the contracts have been signed.
