No Hamburg Airport Classics This Year?

Sat Aug 20, 2005 4:13 am

Hello,

It's been two years since the last Hamburg Airport Classics and I thought they were held every other year, but this year I can't find any info neither on Flughafen Hamburg's website nor in any listings elsewhere.

Anybody know why one of very few civilian airshows won't take place this year?

Welcome on a.net Big grin .
As far as I know, the primary reason the HAC's aren't happening this year is money. Originally, they were to be a one-time event, but after the success, Hamburg Airport decided to go with them every 2 years, pending enough money being available to lure all the aircraft into HAM and allow for the sightseeing flights and fly-bys. Unfortunately, this year the money isn't there, hence no HACs. I still hope we get them next year, I don't want to wait until 2007 to (possibly) see the next one.

Hi,

I heard the reason is the opening of the new terminal 1 several weeks ago (there had been a two day celebration).
But "lack of money" sounds a bit more logical  Wink

Thank you! I have been lurking now for some 7-8 years so I thought it would be time to join...  Smile

Too bad there won't be an airshow this year, the 2003 show was by far the best airshow I've ever been to. Ah well, he who waits... btw, what happened to the Flight Shop in the terminal which was there in 2003 but gone when I was last in Hamburg on Silvester?

Best regards Hans

The official reason was indeed that the airport had it's this year's event with the opening ceremony of new Terminal 1. If this is the real reason... who knows.

However, the Hamburg Airport Classics are supposed to take place again in 2007. Let's hope the best...

When did T1 open? I flew out of there on CO on August 2. Was that right near the beginning? It seemed brand new and pretty empty, but I was also checking in at 6:30AM.
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.

Let's just say that coming up with some lame excuses has never been a hard task for Hamburg airport management .
Edit: The new Terminal 1 opened opened to commercial operations on May 25th.

I really miss the old terminals with the old terraces... I was there quite a lot in the late 80s and remember seeing Pan Am A300, KLM DC-9, Air France/TAT F28, SAS F27 parked on the - in a 12-year old's eyes - huge apron. Remember walking through T2 where SAS had their check-in facilities in a separate room next to the corridor. Those were the days...  Wink
