Gulf Air Breath Taking Airbus Stunts

Mon Aug 22, 2005 1:24 am

I found a few breath taking pics of low fly by Gulf Air's A330, A340 aircraft at the Bahrain Grand Prix which took place earlier in the year. It was more of a publicity stunt for Gulf Air as they were also the official sponsors of the event.

Those pilots must have been damn skilled to carry out stunts like that. Are there any other airlines which do a similar thing ?

It was just a fly by, no?

Cool pics though.

I have heard that these aircraft were flown by Airbus training captains, and not ordinary GF line pilots....

It was to promote Gulf Air. Read it in Airliner World. hyper
First Class passengers are my favourites. They can't get any further forward without an ATPL.

SAA do flyovers and displays at sporting events and government functions quite often. The kind of thing often carried out by military metal here in Canada and the States.

Very nice fly-bys.

Love the Golden Falcon scheme...

Once I recall an Air NZ 747 doing a fly over during a rugby match in Wellington - quite interesting considering that B747s don't land at WLG airport (partially due to the short runway length). I realise this aircraft was probably empty with minimal fuel. I recall a UA pilot came under some criticism many years ago when fog closed AKL airport and he diverted his B747 to WLG instead of CHC - must have been a hair-raising experience for the passengers!

I don't mean to be a party crasher or anything but the first one looks like a fake to me...I'm just saying... not to be rude or anything just... looks more digital than the others

There nothing remotely difficult about these "stunts".
Relatively simply flybys.

Now seeing the A340-600 taking off almost vertically, that's breathtaking.
OR watching a 757 perform maneuvers akin to a fighter... thats cool.

These flybys pictured are quite mundane IMO

SAA did a fly over at some event a few years ago.
Was a B744 in the middle with an A346 on either side IIRC.

Can anyone confirm the config and the event of this fly-by??

I remember being at Biggin Hill a couple of years ago when the Das 707 Freighter and the DC10 freighter did fly-bys up and down the flight-line. I was in the Das hospitality area and no one knew the 707 was due in. The cheer that went up was beyond belief. Sad to think that we will not see that sight (under normal circumstances) again. Unless of course the USAF C135's keep flying.

Nothing personal against you, but why does always someone have to come up with such nonsense? banghead

The fins are not in front of that one beam, if you compare it with the others and have at least a little bit of 3-dimensional imaginative power, you should be able to tell that that one beam ends just below the fin.

Having said that, I do not think that those pics are something extraordinary. The tower in front of the planes is pretty high and considering the zoom used while taking those pictures, the planes shouldn't be any lower then they are during flight shows or fly-bys.

It surely is a sight, though.

The only flyby I had the pleasure of witnessing with my own eyes was in 2004.

I was at the Galway airshow and saw an Aer Arann ART-72 go nice and low over the bay...... what I wouldn't give to see an A340 or b747 do a flyby.

Because for some reason, that one on my first view of it, looked fake, I assume you are a photo expert.. what do you to say about the beam right behind eng #1, and the winglet.. the pilot felt like flying right through the middle of the beams? I can't really tell.. maybe you can..

Cool pix even though some of our friends here think that they are nothing spectacular. Personally, every flight is spectacular - a testimony to human ingenuity.

Anyways - on the topic of fake or not. Did a little research and guess what? They are not fake. Here is the link for the site where the pics come from.

Happy flying...

Those pics are 100% real. I saw the fly-by LIVE! They do it every year during the Grand Prix in April.
The aircraft are flown by GF pilots. In fact the A340 is flown by a Bahraini pilot who is by the way the Chief Pilot.

So please let us give GF crew some credit  checkmark

Big cheer for the GF crew!

No seriously, I think it looks awesome! Probably a combination of the flypast, the livery and the weather!

I second this. I was there too and it looked absolutely awesome. I admit that the photos do sensationalise it a bit further, however the aircraft did come low and everyone in the crowd were in awe. I agree with the recent comment re GF's livery - it is spectacular by interntional airline standards, and does help PR.
