IMO, it would have looked a lot better without the cheatline, or at least if the cheatline didn't curve down at the front of the plane.

It is just plane ugly. Kind of like the old gray over dark blue UA livery.

Yawn...another livery predominantly white.

Boring.

Nice blend of the 2 existing schemes though.

Welcome to boredom kingdom - it's not because European airlines tend to copy boring and tasteless liveries,American airlines have to jump on the wagon.
I don't like it 'cause it's not eye-catching and dull.

I don't like the curving down of the cheatline either. It would look a lot better if the belly coloring continued all the way to the nose.

To be honest, if you put the old one and the new one in front of me, I would be hard pressed to work out which was which. Nothing very different. Not inspiring, nothing telling me that 2 airlines merged. HP who?

Oh well, at least someone is making money out of it. Well done marketing, selling something you already have.

Keep in mind it was developed by HP's internal marketing department, not an outside firm. So it could have gone either way. It'll grow on us.

It seems to be a consensus that the flag does not belong on the tail...it just does not look right...they should have come up with something else.

I personally like it. I was not expecting anything flashy and it was expected that the dark blue fuselage would be gone. It looks fresh and I always liked the US logo flag. We just do not see much of HP in this new livery though. I give it a 7 out of 10  Smile

YAWN!!!!

I really expected that it would be better than this!!! At the very least the blue and red on the bottom should extend to the nose. Curving down like that is nothing short of ugly, and adds way too much white to the scheme.

IMO, it looks just as Matt D predicted....like every other airline out there.

Very, very disappointed. The heritage logo is a good thing but damn....they could have done so much better. The US Airways FS paint scheme that someone posted in the other thread that looked so similar to this, was still 100 times better.

Matt D wrote:

You know with all this hype surrounding the upcoming livery, you know it's still going to boil down to a conservative mix of white, blue, and possibly green and orange stripes and tail logo.

Many of us are going to look at it and say "you mean THAT'S IT?"

It will most likely not be anything new or breathtaking. Just a same conformist variant of all the existing liveries already out there.

Of course others will be foaming at the mouth oohing and awwing over it, talking about how "refreshing" and "modern" it is; how it's now "their favorite livery of all time".

Of course these are usually the same people for whom ANYTHING "new", even if it's an all white fuselage with nothing on it, would consider it a "refreshing" and "modern" livery that will be their all time favorite.....solely and entirely....because it's "new".

..and that's only until the next "new livery" comes along.

I really wanted to disagree. And now I can't. Just think it's so close to that excellent livery from the other thread...and yet so far just because of a few differences in design. But those differences really made or broke the scheme and well....they broke it.

Overall I think that I'm a little disappointed. It isn't terrible or really even bad. It's just kind of boring. Maybe they will finally paint a few in special liveries (i.e. Shamu, Wunala Dreaming, Nevada, California).

Does anyone have a close-up of this "heritage circle"? I'm interested to see what it looks like.

The dark colors are not so great in the desert. Remember, Phoenix and Las Vegas are really sunny and warm. Those dark colors absorb the sun's energy. By using white, a lot of that energy will be reflected.

I agree that it was one of the best: original, classy, attractive. However, Bahamasair learned a lesson from painting solid colours over its fuselage in the mid-80s: in the sun, it'll fade. Given that the liveries of the US/HP merger were going to be standardized, it would be all kinds of expensive to keep repainting the fleet of the former HP, as most of their ops are in hot, sunny, and dry climates. And I believe that colours besides white are much more expensive, so from an economical standpoint, I really can't blame them.

WHAT?! How can you not tell the difference between the dark blue and grey livery of the past and this Eurowhite LCC design?! I personally don't like the new one, whereas the old one was my favorite livery.

I really wish airlines would read these forums and check out MAP before coming up with new liveries. It seems like the 80's and 90's saw a bunch of great liveries, and now we're going back to the bland ones that don't show anything.

From now on, how about A.Net sends petitions to new airlines that are thinking of new liveries with the signatures of all the members and some examples from MAP of what we'd like to see? I mean, we're not part of the biggest aviation forum in the world for no reason, right?

Just my two cents.

Ok, let's look for what there is to like: The tail's blue stripes look good.

Not to rain on the parade, but this is what you get when you let focus groups and committees design a livery. Oh well, it will be cooler at PHX.

Wow I guess I have to take back some of what I said. Looks like maybe they DID consult MAP, haha. It's SO similar, with TINY things changes (i.e. the shape of the darker lines on the tail, the form of the grey on the fuselage, the cheatline) that maybe they just didn't want to go through the pain of getting the copyright.

I think if they did something with the fuselage forward of the wings - it would help. Also put the US logo on the engines as well. I can understand why they did what they did (curving it down in front)...but it would look better taking it straight through.
