Pics Of US Airways New Retro Schemes

Tue Aug 23, 2005 11:45 pm

US Airways will be flying jets not only in their new colours, but in the colours of the four airlines that have merged over the years to make the current US Airways. Here they are (from USAviation):

America West:

PSA (with the smiling face!):

Piedmont:

Allegheny:

Cool Big grin

The message you were about to post is too short and probably not of any higher value to the topic at hand. You should think long and hard before posting a message in this forum and make it detailed and a valuable addition to the topic discussed.

I think they are cool.. however, if I were in the board meeting.. I would suggest the America West be a A319, while the Piedmont-Alleghany-PSA be 734....

I believe they are official and come from the AWA employee's newsletter. Not 100% sure.

That will be nice if they do--I just hate that they are going on A320s--I think they would be more flattering on 737 or 757s

Does anyone else think that these aircraft, along with old US and HP ones and the new combined livery, will just serve to confuse everyone? One airline could (and surely will, if these liveries come to fruition) have at least seven liveries flying round at once... Not even Airtours/MyTravel or Britannia have managed that I think!

Awesome! I think that is a really great idea, and as mentioned in other posts I wish more airlines would do this. I will be very stoked if we get to see one of these at YVR in the future! If anyone reading the form has any official means pass this on to AC - it would be great to see aircraft in the schemes of Canadian, CP Air, Wardair, Pacific Western, transair, Nordair, or EPA again!

Where's the Mohawk retro-jet? Also, the planes should have the original titles, and just put "US Airways" in small letters below the cheatline somewhere.

I don't see anything wrong with having 1 regular and 10 special aircraft out there.. I mean, with over 350+ in their fleet.. it would be a definite plus to see one of the retro PSA, Piedmont, Alleghany, America West #1, America West #2, MetroJet, USAir #1, USAir #2, USAirways #1, Mohawk aircraft show up at your gate.. with dedicated crew that dressed in retro uniforms.. sounds good to me...

It's really ironic. When each of these mergers actually took place USAir couldn’t wait to get rid of the hybrid liveries. Now they’re back with honors! Too funny… Smile

As an airliner fan I would agree with you, but from a business perspective I can see why they want to emphasize the "US Airways".... not having having it in a prominent place on the fuselage would confuse most of the flying public.

That's brilliance. In a time where they need product recognition the most, they are confusing the customers.

I think everyone is taking this the wrong way.. They are only doing 1 aircraft in each livery.. not a quarter of the fleet in each.. much as WN has the state flag livery.. and HP had their state liveries.. US is doing the same.. I think it is brilliant.. and everyone flying on the aircraft will know it is USAiways.. cause it is still prominant on the aircraft.. But why not paint the retro schemes on their E70.. that would be very... cute.

With the exception of America West's colors, I think they all look a little awkward on the A320. In my opinion, they should use 757s for the retro schemes since they make any livery look great! But I'm still thrilled to see that all the predecessor airlines are getting some recognition.

Good call. If you're going to do it, which I still think is a bad idea from a brand management perspective, than the 757's always seem to be the best aircraft to do it on. Which raises a good question: will the 757's in America West's fleet keep their theme colors, or will they all be assimilated?

Personally, I wish they would use the 757s for the 4 retro schemes along with the 80s USAir scheme; especially since Boeing planes can carry a bare metal scheme of any type better than on the Airbii.  duck

IIRC, AA had to give their A300s a special treatment to get at least the effect of a bare-metal look.

Echo the sentiments above on the PSA scheme, absolutely stonking on an A320 if that's the plane that gets it...goodness me if the A330 did though  Smile

Gawd, I hope that the new US Airways paints as many A319's and A320's in the PSA retro scheme as possible. I'm sure that will bring a smile to old-time passengers who remember old PSA as these special-livery planes ply the routes between LAS/PHX and California destinations.  bigthumbsup

Seems to me they're forgetting a few.

But I like the ones they have "deigned" to do.

The A320s will look much better on these old liveries than their newly adopted one however.. they should put these on 757s. The A320 is too boring of a plane.

I really like the PSA one =)

As an old Piedmont person...gotta say I'm delighted to see the revival of all of the old colors that will make up the new US Airways. All of those airlines brought a unique character and make-up to the table.

It's a shame that the people who orchestrated the previous mergers of US, PSA and Piedmont didn't recognize the positive attributes of each one of those carriers and then integrate them into what will soon to be the old US Airways.

Kudos to America West for recognizing those qualities. I wish them much success!

Hopefully the ones that used to fly the 737 Classics in particular like PSA will find a retro PSA scheme on them - and use them even on some of the old similar routes - now that would be brilliant.

I think a World Cup 2006 Germany US Airways could be in order too since they have flights to Munich and Frankfurt! At least an official logo on the A330's making the runs for next summer!

I love the one-off paint schemes!  Smile
