Safe To Book On NW/DL?

Wed Aug 24, 2005 11:29 pm

I'm planning a trip to ONT from MHT on NW/DL for Xmas/New Years. Do you think its safe to book on DL/NW?, or should I wait and see how their the're doing over the next few months.

I don't see any problem- even if either one were to enter bankruptcy, the flight operations would continue as normal just like US, UA, etc.... And as for the labor issues, it seems that NWA has their bases covered so far..

I agree - what the President would do if he thought it necessary would be to step in and mandate a cooling off period to where the unions would go back to work. The only way the President can do this is if they feel the strike is causing a disruption to the national interests pertaining to travel.

I have a feeling that NWA is going to know whether or not this strike is going to work for them or not and by Turkey Day everything will be pretty much smooth and certainly by Xmas/NewYears it will be business as usual.

I would not risk NW at this time. DL is safe for sure. So is UA, AA and CO.

There is no chance that any of the US airlines will be out of business by then. NW and DL haven't even filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy yet, let alone filed for Chapter 7. You'll be fine no matter who you choose.

Delta has indicated on their website that they are currently aiding their SkyTeam partner NW, and that there should be no problems.

Come Christmas, however, who knows...I would suspect that this will long be over by then.

Even if they are not flying you can get your money back if you use a credit card. All you need to do is dispute the charge with the credit card company if you do not receive the service and they will refund your airfare.

This is why Delta is having an additional cash crunch right now trying to meet the agreement of it's credit card payment agrements with all the credit card companies.

I have to book DL BDL-FLL-BDL because its the only nonstop. And should something happen, CO would probably honor my ticket and give me a good expirence!

For what it's worth, I've got a double-whammy coming on Friday. I'm flying NW CLT-FLL thru DTW, and my DTW-FLL flight is the last one out. A) I'm hoping I can determine the status of my DTW-FLL flight before leaving CLT, so I can hopefully be rebooked if necessary. B) There's a tropical storm due to hit that area tomorrow into Friday. Still haven't heard if/how that's going to impact my NW experience....
Finally made it to an airline mecca!

COERJ145,

You should be fine, unless something really drastic happens (as in another 9/11, which is highly unlikely). NW will either have the AMFA workers back to work on management's terms or will have made the replacements perminent employees, and even if DL files Ch11, the flights will continue as normal. Ch11 is merely reorganization, and while your schedule might change due to the reorganization, you will receive services.

Go have yourself a merry little Christmas and a happy New Year!

I hope you're right. I have this little voice telling me that there won't be enought DIP financing for Delta to operate "as normal" during the restructuring process.

I look for Delta to be sold off in pieces after filing bankruptcy. The $4 million a day cash burn can't continue any longer. The JFK operation, the Shuttle, and the Atlanta hub all have value that could be turned into much needed cash. Look for 60% of the employees be moved off Delta's payroll and 100 aircraft or more returned to the lessors.

I think Delta is going to pay the price for two botched bankruptcies (US & UA) before it. I think the money people are going to be looking for more sure ways of protecting their money, and investing in a US airline is very, very risky.
Tired of airline bankruptcies....EA/PA/TW and finally DL.

It's safe to book on NW and DL - both airlines will have at least 3-4 months to their names even if they filed for bankruptcy tomorrow.
