Question: obviously it would take quite a strong wind to topple a 777, but what precautions are taken at airports such as MIA to protect the planes from hurricane damage?

There will be no commercial planes there. Airlines always evacuate their planes out of cities where a storm is landing. The risk of leaving a plane there is too great.

Heres the 5:00 PM advisory:

Location: 26.1 N 79.9 W (15 miles ENE of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl)
Movement: West at 6 MPH
Winds: 75 MPH
Pressure: 29.09 in/985 mb

Doesent look too bad but I hope everyone down in the FLL/MIA Area makes it through without any problems.
