Looks familiar, like another plane I've seen, like a 757.

WOW nice... Thanks for the links. Although, I though the 787 will be assembled like Airbus planes. The subcontractors would build the entire forward section as a whole and put in on a Boeing Beluga for shipment to Everett?

Very cool!

I will compromise here and say that it looks like a blending of a 757 nose, and a Bombardier nose, ie: CRJ, Challenger.

Very cool though. I like it!

Is the door high? Or is the cockpit windows low? Should be interesting, and I personally think it looks very sleek.

It doesn't seem wide enough; is it just because the door, windscreen, and windows are bigger than, say, a 767?

Also, what model is this 787 going to be (a 787-300/-800/-900)?

The windows are probably twice as large as current windows, so that may affect the visible scale. Plus the picture caption says the thing is 19 feet (224 inches) in diameter, which is quite wide.

Quoting Web (Reply 9):

I think the first plane will be a 787-8, the baseline model.

The nose is the same on all models, but yes the -8 will be the first one.

I think it looks great! Much better than the artist concept! Boeing still knows how to make beautiful planes! Big grin

Don't hold your breath. First one is always for static testing. If anything it'll end up in a pile of debris after being tested to destruction.

It is hard to guage the scale from these pictures, but the cockpit windows look very large. I look at the pictures and I mentally scale it to a 737 nose, but then I realize that this is a 767 sized nose. I wish I could see a person alongside the nose for reference.

How can Boeing increase the pressurization and make the windows bigger at the same time? Aren't the windows the weak point?

Very nice, looks more similar to earlier artist concept than to the present "final" one.

Interesting to see it already painted by the subcontractors. Isn't it the first aircraft to be prepainted before final assembly?

Nice Nose!

Just had a thought, other then the cost, is it Possible to buy a nose section of an aircraft from any Manufacturer. It would be great fun to have one, put it on the front lawn, build it into the house, etc.

Prob. to retain the streamlined look and for headroom for the pilots.

Glad it came out this way instead of the latest computerized 787 image from Boeing which looked more of a 757 nose, which is this:

This look very cool. Even if the shark's fin is gone, the nose evokes predatory characteristics.

Interesting to see it still labelled as the 'dreamliner'. I really don't care for that name much, although it is good choice.

The windows are very tall compared to current windows, this is why it gives you the impression that the windows are sitting higher with respect to the door. Compare the nose picture on the article to this one (assuming that the door size on both planes is roughly the same; I could be wrong about this though).

And to the 787, it actually looks a lot better than on the pictures that Boeing released so far. Way to go!
