Interesting, considering a thread earlier this week from an internal Airbus source said the test would take place early in 2006.

Which is it?

Are they still being allowed to conduct the test in daylight only with slides pre-deployed (there fore biasing the test considerably)?

So they can certify it at its maximum capacity perhaps?

Does anyone know if the time taken for the slides to inflate will taken into account in this test? In any event, they have to inflate fully within ten seconds as I recall anyway don't they?

to be more accurate the text says "873 passengers and crew members" hence the 873 represent crew, pax and possible replacement crews. maybe someone with a clue about the pax cabin crew ratio can derive the max pax that they will certify for from that number. 855 pax + 2 flight deck+ 16 cabin crew seems a bit low on the # of cabin crew for me and has no second crew for the flight deck.
hence 873 seems to indicate a very short haul setting or airbus is confident and wants to precertify for the -900!

No it's actually 857 pax.

So what are the remaining 16 people?
- 14 cabin crew + 2 pilots?
- 16 cabin crew only?

I bet it's the later, 2 crews per door = 8 doors, as pilots have theoretically nothing to do with evac, don't they?

You've still got to evacuate the flight crew safely, so I'd assume that they'd be included in the 90s rule. I believe at least one cabin crew member is needed for each pair of doors (?), but beyond that I can't remember the numbers for the A380.
