Boxy Aircraft @ SAN.

Sat Aug 27, 2005 7:04 am

I have a backlog of posts to make so sorry for this. But I fairly often see a boxy looking plane taking off and heading directly north (not out to see but over the city) from SAN in the early evenings. Anyone know where this plane is going??

If I had to guess what kind of plane it is I would say Shorts 360.

If it's a twin-tail design it's the older Shorts 330, and if a single tail, the newer Shorts 360.

I've seen some ex-Mississippi Valley 330s ("MV" registration suffix) in the photo database here and some of them are run by freight operators. If you can find out which one, maybe someone will know the destination. I don't know that any are still used for passenger flights out that way any more...

It is most definitely a Shorts 330 or 360. I believe a company called Ameriflight runs regional cargo operations out of SAN.

Most days of the week, two to three Shorts aircraft arrive from El Centro in the early evening, and then depart to Ontario about and hour later (give or take).

Apparently, aircraft departing to Ontario from SAN will take a right turn after takeoff, routing them slowly over Pacific Beach, La Jolla, Miramar and the I-15 corridor up to ONT. I've seen the Ameriflight aircraft as well as a few cargo 727s do this before.

EDIT: Whoops...I may be mistaken on what I just wrote, but I'm not sure. See my post on your other thread (http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/2296432) for more info.

Sorry Ameriflight doesn't own any shorts

They do operate 1900c's which you may have seen.

The airline that operates the Shorts 360 out of SAN is Skyway Enterprises & the only flight I see for them on Flytecomm is SKZ1955 IPL-SAN-ONT.

Srbmod is right. I confused Skyway with Ameriflight.

There are a few photos of these Skyway planes at SAN in the database.
