Air Canada Jazz CRJ705 @ MSY

Sat Aug 27, 2005 7:55 am

The CR7 was in here today, as well as several days last week. Does anyone in the loop know if we should expect to see more CRJ-705 service into MSY to replace the CR2's? Certainly the 705's offer more passenger comfort on the 2.5 hour flight.

I think it will be used a lot more on that route, it might even go to an EMB 175/190 at times too, from what I have heard at least.

AC777LR, thanks a lot for the info.

It would be nice to see some more capacity in the market since we were seeing a daily 319 until about a year ago. I'll take a CR7/E70/E95 over a CR2 any day of the week.

all of Air Canada's new planes will have PTVs in all classes, and leg room around 34" in Coach class. These new CRJs are quite nice from what I have heard, have leather seats as well. I am not sure whats going on with the CRJ100/200 fleet upgrade, I would like to know too?

From what I can tell by looking up fares from YYZ for my girlfriend to come visit me, they are filling that CR2 and getting crazy high fares for it. Their Tango fares are something like 550 CDN each way. She mostly flies out of BUF anyway, but it is interesting to note that AC appears to be getting loads and yields out of the route and would be well suited to use a larger aircraft

I remember back in 1998 when the route was started with a daily DC9-30 with much fanfare. It then switched to a 73S operated by Canadian Airlines, then a 73S operated by AC when AC bought out CP, then to a 319 (some days a 320), and now a CRJ ever since the SARS epidemic hit. It is good to see some potential increase in capacity. Clearly some demand is there since they have been serving MSY for seven years.

how many daily flights are there to MSY? Is it just the 1? Why not just add a frequency instead of upgrade?

When I checked flytecomm earlier (and yes, I know they are not correct all the time), it stated it was a CR9...

Because they don't want to fly 2 flights a day with horrible CASM numbers instead of 1 flight that can actually make them a fair bit of money

That would be nice to see.

So flying a 319/320 (former aircraft on the route) would create a horrible CASM instead of 2 CRJ?

Likewise, flying 2 CRJ would create that much more problems than flying the 90+ seat CR9?

The CRJ-705 is the same as a CR9 as far as dimensions go. I don't think AC technically operates CR9 aircraft.

CRJ-705 holds F10Y65 I think.

No, flying an A319 or A320 on the route would have a very positive effect on CASM

The PTV are not scheduled to be installed until late next year.

I don't know about that, have you ever been on one? Just don't sit in business class or at the back of the airplane unless you have ear plugs!

I wish I could explain it but honestly I can't give you a real answer, the only way is to try it out for yourself. You would think with the engines being that far back that it would be quiet. I think IMO that there seems to be a lack of insulation (not enough) to block all that wind noise the long fuse seems to pick up. Believe it or not, a DHC-Q400 is a lot quieter!!

Well i've been on a couple of Horizon CRJ-700's and I thought they were far superior to the Comair/Skywest CRJ-200's that i've been on. I''m only basing my opinion on that. The only nice CR2 i've been on was flown by JI. And even so, looking down out those tiny windows is annoying to say the least.

You are right about the CRJ-700/900 being far superior to the CRJ 200 and those little windows on the 200 make me want to puke everything I look out of them. The 700 might be a little different than the 700 in terms of noise considering that it is shorter, but I was a bit shocked about the 705 (900). It is comfortable inside but that noise is annoying.

The upgauges have been to cover for unservicable CRJ200's

I've sat in row 1, and row 28. In cruise, in row 1 you can easily hear conversations in the first couple rows of Y - and in row 28, it gets very loud during the start, but after that IMO it isn't any noisier than any other new generation rear engined aircraft.
