Tuninter ATR72 CVR Recovered

Mon Aug 29, 2005 8:37 pm

Thought you could be interested in this update:

Tuninter ill-fated ATR72's CVR has been recovered from the part of the wreck that is still submerged, the body of one of the victims has been salvaged too, though it was impossible to certify his identity due to the poor condition of the remains. The tail of the aircraft still lies at a depth of 1.440m.
Other parts of the aircraft that have been recovered are the cockpit instrument panels, a 12m section of the aft part of the fuselage, along with the tail. CVR appears to be in good condition.

Still missing are the FDR (which signal has been detected), the bodies of the 2 remaining passengers.

Operations are carried out by the ship "Edt Ares", operating on behalf of U.S. company "Phoenix international".

Italy's safety board ANSV officially opened the investigation, in cooperation with Tunisian authorities and the aircraft manufacturer.

Regards.

It was ATR72 TS-LBB, ditched off Palermo airport, Sicily, after both engines flamed out.
