ATR 42 Of Airlinair (F) Makes Hard Landing

Tue Aug 30, 2005 3:49 am

An ATR 42 of the french regional airline Airlinair ( flying under Air France colours )made an extremely hard landing last night in Lyon ( France ),injuring one flight-attendand.
The plane was shown in this evening's TF1 news with broken landing-gear and a tilt-cell.In order to hide the Air France logo, the plane was covered with paper and plastic-tape.

It was a charter for soccer team Olympique Lyonnais from Auxerre back home in LYS, in the middle of last night. No news on French TV as to the causes of the incident. Glad everybody is safe (I am an OL fan!!!).

The spoilt brats should have gone by bus - from Auxerre to Lyon it's just 250km down the A6.

Getting to/from the airports, checking in etc. certainly was not much quicker than 2,5 hours in the bus..... - not talking about the costs for an airplane....

ATR 42 Of Airlinair (F) Makes Hard Landing

Tue Aug 30, 2005 9:30 am

I worked at LYS as a trainee for 14 weeks, so I know some people working at the airport. I already sent them a mail to ask additional information (exact reg, circumstances, etc), and if possible some pics of the (damage of the) plane.

I'll keep you informed if I receive something...

I'm glad noone was seriously hurt.

Here's an article on the incident...funny thing about the "jet."

Lyon relief following air drama
Monday, 29 August 2005

A number of Olympique Lyonnais players were "in shock or complaining of pains in their ribs" after a plane carrying them back from Sunday night's victory at AJ Auxerre was forced to make an emergency landing in the early hours of this morning.

'Lost control'
"A stewardess, who suffered a wrist injury, was the only casualty but some players are still in shock," said a club spokesman. "The pilot lost control of our jet as we were approaching Lyon airport. The landing was so hard that the plane's wheels exploded and a wing was seriously damaged."

Top of the table
Despite none of their players suffering injury, club officials have asked their carrier, Airlinair, for "a precise report into the circumstances and origin of the incident". The French champions won the game 2-0 to open up a three-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 after five matches.

Funny that they couldn't tell the difference between a jet and a turboprop, I guess that solves the question about people flying in RJs and turboprops.

The funny thing are the immediate hiding of the Air France logo and writing on the plane - two harsh landings within a month for Air France planes does not provide too good publicity.
Would it have been a turkish or egyptian plane ,the media-coverage would have been different. But since the incident concerns Air France....

A hard landing is a bit different from missing flight documentations or faulty aircraft parts and questionable procedures. Not everywhere can an Air France conspiracy be found.

Ok, I have an answer on my mail! First we have to get one thing straight, the incident happened at Lyon-Bron, and not at Lyon-Saint Exupéry (LYS).

Here is the information from the mediator of LYS (sorry, only in French):
-----------

It's nice to have connections  Wink

Glider, can you please translate the French statement made by the mediator of LYS? This incident has made a lot of headlines here in Norway due to the fact that one of the players on board was Jon Carew, a high profile Norwegian player.

OK, if it is for tall John Carew.... (high profile is arguable, high for sure  Wink

"in fact I saw the plane and I thought the pilot went in too high and dived to land, he did flare, then the tail made contact, (then) the landing gear touched so violently that the shock absorbers broke, two tyres exploded and the wheels were pushed inside the frame."

Thx Iakobos, for the translation. Less work for me  Wink

I have received some a pic of the plane via a PDF-file. Since I'm not a forum specialist, I'm willing to send it to someone who can put it into the topic. That's no problem to me. Who's candidate?

The thruth is that the Paris-Saint-Germain wanted to end the O.L.'s supremacy over the League 1 championship and had the plane sabotaged to get rid of their major opponents.

What they didn't know is that even if they succeeded, thet would still fail at wining the title...

the PSG sucks!
