FF Miles In A Merger Transaction

Tue Aug 30, 2005 10:30 am

Reading the merger website:

http://161.58.184.45/merger/

At Christmas time, I will be flying home to see my family scattered in Arizona and Nevada and my fiancee's family generally in the NY metro area. The sooner that HP's Flightfund is merged with Dividend Miles, the better for me.

Our trip will not be until December, and it appears that they are aiming to close the transaction in October. How long after that before Flightfund is either a) considered part of the Star Alliance, or b) HP allows me to claim United Miles flying them?

I am sure someone else has had a bank of miles or been in a similar situation in other airline mergers. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

My guess would be that almost immediately after the transaction is closed, you will be able to fly the new US and earn miles on your UA account.

Reason I say that is, there are people right now already working on system integration to ensure that things can happen almost immediately after the merger.

Ok, many thing have to happen for you to earn USFF miles with a HPflight. They have to merge or at least America west has to become an airline partner in USFF program by December

In the case of AF-KLM merger, Frequence+ and Flying Dutchman members are allowed to merge their accounts into one single Flying Blue account. Some problems may show up (two different FB cards, incorrect mileage...) but customer service will solve it on request)

On the other side, LX has mantained Travel Club Program after being swallowed by LH, Swiss has just joint the star alliance and members can earn and redeem miles within star alliance but may not transfer milles between two programs nor combine them like flying Blue

My Tip: Join HPFF as it's the only way you actually get creditted those miles.

Procedure1: Don´t enter any FF number at the reservation process. You have 6 months to claim for not-accounted flown miles. "To receive retroactive mileage credit for your flight on America West or partner airlines, send a request in writing to the FlightFund Service Center within 6-months of the mileage accumulation transaction." But you have to be a member when flying, If not, there's only 1 month retroactive credit from the date of signup. If by April you don´t see any movement, claim the HP flight to the HPFF

Procedure2: You keep boht FFP ussing them from the start. You but the flight trough the website and get bonus miles, you apply for the credit card and get those miles, bla bla bla....

Eventually: If after the merger, you don´t see them merging the programs, or even worse, HP doesn´t join Star or accepts US for miles redemption, you will have a program with few miles... try to get the ones needed for a basic flight or just donate them when they're going to expire

Excellent and detailed advice Aisak--it is not too big a deal because everything fits neatly on UA flying from Sydney to my folks in the west and her folks in NYC. The only HP segment is from Vegas to Phoenix. I think that qualifies for the 500 mile minimum. I am shooting for as much as I can because after this trip, I will be very close to the border of Gold Status in UA's program.

Maybe only one ANZ mileage run SYD-CHC or SYD-AKL will be needed to launch me into Gold Status!

I am trying to convince my work that they need me for a few days in SIN or HKG (via SIN or BKK of course) which will seal the deal.
