Huh?!? Now that really surprises me. Okay, E70 expansion out of JFK could have been expected, but to SAT and AUS? Ah well, no JB on these routes yet, smart move, hope it works out for DL. Still waiting for E70 JFK-MIA though.

This is not a coincidence. AUS and SAT are the first two new markets jetBlue was planning on launching from JFK this spring. Delta gets a leg up.

I'm still waiting for that MIA-JFK flight too, DL767400ER. I've been hearing it may launch in December, also to one-up jetBlue.

Edit: Looking at the times, the schedule allows for one more roundtrip from JFK, with the plane RONing at the outstation, so we might soon see one more flight announce (or more for that matter).

I also looked at it and think that the 2 E170's needed to fly these routings are used up. One flies from 9:20am until 10:00pm and the other from 7:00am until 9:10pm. The AUS layover is about 10 hours overnight and the JFK one is about 12 hours...

Those obviously must be for the E90's to fly. Definitely not a 320 route.

Now let's see who will launch JFK-MIA first and American's response to it. I think they are adding a 7th flight this winter, thought I'm not positive.

Anyone think that RIC will get atleast one flight a day to JFK? All we have is to La Guardia it kind of pisses me off that I can't make most of my connections (Europe, West coast, etc.).

PVD could really use a JFK or 2 for some international connections...

DL or AA would be my pick (50 or 37 seaters would be perfect)

They added a seasonal summer service with a 763 this year.

MIA-JFK really isn't a cash cow for AA, outside of the interantional connections. Using mainly A300s, it allows AA to dump cheap capacity in a dense market. The money is on MIA-EWR/LGA.

I'm convinced that this announcement by DL will not stop B6 from starting JFK-AUS/SAT at some point in the not too distant future. The arrival time of the SAT-JFK flight (1810) misconnects to most Europe-bound departures. And the 0920 departure ex-JFK to SAT will have little/no upline connecting flights. This seems geared primarily towards the local market.

It's good that AUS and SAT are getting some attention (that they rightly deserve). Both markets will continue to grow and do well.

On a brighter note, the Embraer 170 is a great aircraft, and is ideally suited to routes like JFK-SAT and JFK-AUS. It will be a good option for local travellers; it just won't offer much in terms of new connect opportunities beyond JFK.

Realised that too after looking at the schedules a second time. At first I read that the flight would RON at JFK for some 17 hours. Guess I need better glasses  Silly .

Actually, the number of connections are not too shabby still:
NCE, VCE, FRA, CDG, MAD, BRU, and MXP. The JFK-AUS flight departing at 1840 would be suitable for inbound connections as well. But you're right, in general, these aren't timed for international connections are more focused on O&D traffic.

The E70 will also be going to another destination served from JFK.

Perhaps DL might re-instate DFW - JFK with the E170. I would think this would be successful with a more comfortable and efficient aircraft than the CR7. The first class cabin may help with high yield international traffic.
Go Delta!

Wow! DL is getting aggressive versus B6. The first E-jet vs. E-jet battle.  box

If the routes are profitable for DL, I'm all for competition. But when will DL get high enough aircraft utilization to be cost competitive? In other words, I hope the times shown for the E70 RON's at JFK prove to be inaccurate.

I've yet to hear a plan out of DL where they are break even. Right now its lose money on every flight, but make it up in volume!  flamed  My first flights were all on DL; it saddens me to see them managed so poorly.  cry

There will be a daily JFK-CMH E70 flight that rotates these planes in and out.

No offence but I think that if DL Connection would do a New England-JFK run the launch route would probably be BDL as they have a large presence there already having all of the DL brands sexept Shuttle operating there, and because PVD is so close to BOS, you could hike up there to get a flight to more international destinations than BDL. Just my twocents , but they could be slightly bias.

I had a feeling that Republic would end up routing an E70 in such a way, otherwise where would the aircraft come from? It doesn't look like they have been uploaded into Delta's schedule yet however. Two questions too: will the JFK-CMH E70 flight be in addition to the current ERJ-145 that is flown on the route, or will it replace it? Also, for further E70 expansion from JFK, could we see Delta opting to place an E70 between IND and JFK, replacing the current Comair CRJ?

Me too, I did like Delta but now I turned to B6 because even though my first flights were on DL to Florida, it was deadly boring and well after that I experienced jetBlue and well you can map out the rest (lol).

Anyway smart move on DL's part to jump in on suspected markets for B6. B6 should really not give any hints to where they might go next, it is basically telling competitors what their plan is. So if the new flights are profitable then B6 will probably jump on that route, and if not then they won't waste their time.

What amazes me is that DFW still doesn't have JFK service from DL.

You would think with the former hub there, they could fill up a jet or two a day.

Surprises me as well, though DFW can now claim to be the only domestic airport served by DL that doesn't get any RJs Big grin . I also wonder why DL hasn't added JFK-IAH back either. Okay, you have CO on that route, but still would be a good addition.

With 6 whopping flights per WEEK, all on 737-500 equipment, the smallest mainline plane Continental has? Just a small hunch that it isn't Continental that is keeping Delta off JFK-IAH, rather, it's something else...

Texas is supposed to be one of the first E190 destinations for jetBlue so I guess we'll just have to wait it out for a bit and see where they go...

Firstly, these Texas cities are outside the 1000 mile perimeter for LGA flights. They are 'hubbusters' allowing profitable revenue nonstop service bypassing IAH or DFW.

JFK-MIA is a high load factor market; I expect aircraft like B757's and A320's to ply that route for years to come.

Thanks for the information. I had done a search for fares from AUS to SVO and some of the return flights routed me through JFK and on to AUS on Shuttle America and I was wondering just what in the heck that was. Now, I know.

Great to see E-jet service to Austin and non-stop service to JFK!
