Is EDI just a ERJ airport for Bmi?

I take it they currently operate 1 daily EDI-MUC flight?

Do Bmi codeshare on all flights to Germany with LH?

Hmm. Yes this is a good new route, though I have yet to see timings and fares, I imagine that given the ER4 equipment, the fares will be targeted at the high yield business market.

Where does this sit with BMI New Mainline Strategy though? Seems like yet another anomaly to the network.

Questions have to be asked over BAA's policy of diverting airlines to EDI, rather than GLA.
A GLA-MUC flight would have been much better due to the current non-availability of German flights froM GLA.

Is this BMI regional and therefore complimentary food/drink or will it be no-frills, buy from our tuck shop? At least with the 145, carrying 2 cabin staff all passengers will get served!

Since has been rumoured for a long time now, good to see it finally happen.
2x daily during the week, no flights on a Saturday and one flight on a Sunday. Will these flights require another based aircraft at EDI?

Have to echo ScottishLaddie. Lets keep it clean.

For your info, BMI will have secured a decent pro-rate from LH for the MUC connecting traffic. Without this deal then there is no way BMI would have operated this service.

The sector is very long for a regional jet, but the yields are no more than that lifted out of BHX or MAN. Someone has to make the route worthwhile to fly the extra distance.

There will also be some Scottish Enterprise cash behind this, so they seem happy to fork out support for it.

Ah, finally something smart!!!

The only thing I am afraid of is that until March 2006 they'll change their mind and first sub-contract it to Turkmenistan Airines Yak40, then introduce a stopover in Oostende, and then change the schedule from connecting with the Star Alliance hub to connecting with the local railway to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Or they completely make up their mind and withdraw it altogether before starting it.

Have they asked for regulatory permission to fly the route, do they have the slots?

This may all sound quite sarcastic, but we've seen all of these things before...

What a pity it doesn't start this autumn, I would take that flight end of September.

The even funnier thing is that LTN BRU will be full service, whilst LHR BRU will offer pay on board catering, (plus a business class cabin). Oh, and from Gatwick you can fly BmiBaby to teesside, economy only.

Three brand and product offerings from London equals brand confusion which equals customer confusion.

I just dont understand the thought process of the BD brigade.

They want to cut costs, so they open yet another night stop base. They bring high cost full service regional jets into the heart of low cost charter ville, yet they cant make money from high yield Heathrow. LTN BRU just isnt suitable for RJ's.

This will end up like last years failed attempts at operating from Gatwick and London City Airport. Yet again, BD find a way at losing millions more. I dispair. Is BMIR another Duo about to happen?

Just ran a Fare Display for this new route. WOuld you believe that the Flexible Economy Fare (ie refundable changeable and endorseable) on this route is a staggering £860.00 PLUS TAX. Lead in Fare is £65.00 online only, or £93.00 through your agent's GDS. And to further complicate this, BMI have loaded 27 fares for the route. WTF???

Now onto the latest BD joke. The lead in fare here looks to be around £27.00 plus tax online only, or £68.00 through a GDS. The LTN fares are commonrated with the LHR fares (as LON), and thus the full Economy fare will be the same as the LHR option, at £390.00. Though for this route, as Bestwestern says, you will benefit from full service, whereas at LHR you won't.

I am in a daze....

Now TP is part of Star Alliance, would it be sensible for BD to perhaps fly LON-LIS on a codeshare with TP instead of the one flight per day LHR-MAD or LHR-ALC?

Either bmi regional are due more ERJ deliveries (I think they have a couple still on delayed order), or they are picking up secondhand aircraft, or something in their existing network has to give. Will they finally stop wasting their time on Aberdeen to Norwich now FlyBe are entering that market?

Luton to Brussels - I have seen it all now!

LTN-BRU is a good idea if it's at a low cost, you have no LCC flying to London from BRU.

About time.

There is a very big Germany-Scotland market.
A lot of soldiers posted in Germany come from the scottish regiments. Then you also have the very healthy german community in EDI.
For this reason, I can see a directEDI-HAJ service doing very well if BMI twigg onto the idea.

For Now, this EDI-MUC service should do well with all the Bavarians visiting our Capitol and Highlands

A fair point - except that MUC would be completely the wrong market for UK soldiers. The Southern part of Germany was always garrisoned by US soldiers following the postwar divide of germany, British bases were all in the north of the country. MUC is a LONG way away from UK bases (even FRA is in what was the US Zone)

HAJ which you mentioned would be much more relevent for military traffic - as has always been the case to the UK - my brother used to fly home from there regularly).

Fully aware of that... your talking to an ex attached civilian.

I meant this MUC route would suite the German community well.
Also, there are a lot of Bavarians travelling to Scotland for their holidays.
Not sure what it is, but Germans from the southern regions love Scotland.

They arrive en mass in the summer time with their campervans, bicycles or just on foot with camping gear.

BMIBaby Tiny Fares - Online Only, No Checkin Desk usage, BoB, No Miles (W,T class etc)

Standard Fares - Online/GDS/Phone Booking, self check in only, Diamond Club Miles (V, Q, H, M, B, S)

NO FARES HOWEVER ALLOW THROUGH BAGGAGE CHECKING IF ON SEPARATE TICKETS.

bmi's big advantage is that their passengers will be able to connect on to LH flights, aswell as the strong political and business links that are held between the 2 cities. EDI-MUC previously only operated for a month or so, but was Duo's strongest route start and achieved 50-60% loads of the CRJ-700, which isn't bad by Duo's standards.  Wink Especially after first month ops, when they were more used to half that.  Wink

The route should be popular, especially next Summer when I imagine lots of Scots will go to the World Cup, even if we don't qualify!!

Still, its about time the airport 45 minutes along the road got a direct link to Germany, EDI has clearly proven the demand exists with its numerous services.

EDI being the capital will always have strong business/political links, LH EDI-FRA service a prime example and such a popular routeing too. BD compliment the Star Alliance by adding MUC.
