How Do These Jetways Work?

Thu Sep 01, 2005 8:37 am

I was looking at this pic of MUC and noticed the jetways positioned infield. They don't appear to be connected to a larger building. Can anyone explain how pax get to the jetways? Seems like an odd design and in fact looks a little surreal to see stand alone jetways like that.

I saw them at MUC. It seems they take pax from the plane, down a flight of stairs, through a door to the ramp, and into a waiting bus. They're glorified airstairs.

They have a set of stairs inside that takes you down to ground level. A bus transports the passengers out and back and there is an overhang in the front where the bus stops to protect the people from the weather.
It is a nice ingenious lower cost solution to airport capacity.

I was in Munich in June and looked at them but I did not see one used during my wait.
