Delta.com Is Inviting You To Explore Berlin...

Fri Sep 02, 2005 4:14 am

I plan to accept their invitation in November  Smile

Whats funny is its the same price LAX-TXL as it is ATL-TXL, so I may make a mileage run out of the deal to build my MQMs. Thats the only downside of living in ATL...high fares and not as easy to build MQMs.

You'll love it..I think Berlin is one of THE coolest cities on the continent - plethora of five star hotels at very reasonable prices, great nightlife, amazing museums, and overall, still very affordable. Plus, TXL is such an easy airport to arrive into, navigate, and leave from. I've been on DL 78/79 quite a few times since the inaugural in May - the departure back to JFK is almost always on time...will be on DL79 this Sunday back to JFK, in fact.

Will those flights be available before or after elections? That makes a large difference :-P . If you visit Berlin, visit the the government district, "Potsdamer Platz", and Sancoussi. And of course, also take the drive to Hamburg for a few days  Wink .

I do not wish to sound unwelcoming, but November is one of the worst months to visit Germany and Northern/Eastern Germany in particular - if not the worst.
I really suggest to come between May and September, preferably during summertime.

Greetings from Berlin

Well its because my freind is doing a semester abroad over there. Ive pretty much explored every inch of the country, and have flown over 100,000 miles domestically in the past 4 years, and in my 22 years my intl experience consists of 7 days in Canada! Only about 1/2 the trip will be in Berlin, the other 1/2 probably Paris and Zurich on the rail pass.

I know europe is nice in the summer but with the $1,000 + airfares it just aint happenin!

Wow, 100,000 miles miles domestically are hard to beat, and I didn't know fares exceed $1,000 during summer. I was more thinking of the 500 to 700 dollar price range.

Anyway ... hopefully you are lucky enough to catch catch some beautiful days.

That's a shame! Vancouver, Toronto, montreal and the rockies, to mention a few, should warrant a second look from someone with so much intl experience.

The invitation is definately very tempting, Berlin sounds like it would be a lot of fun, then again, most of Europe does.  Sad

Berlin tut gut!
Though I live in the states now, Berlin is my home town. There is nowhere on Earth quite like it, so even though the weather may be disagreeable (as NoUfo pointed out), I expect you'll have a wonderful time.

Well, I was in Berlin last November and it wasn't bad at all. There was one day (actually half day) the weather was not good (I visited there thursday-sunday). Indeed, it is an amazing city. I have to say my visit there was too short and I hope I can visit there again.

Berlin is a wonderful city! Hope the DL flights will beat the break-even point. I am a little sceptical whether tourism traffic will be enough - inevitably, this is not the best business route - but maybe govt traffic can compensate a little

Huh?? Did I miss this in three years I have lived there? Apart from teh Love Parade (which luckily has been shunned), I do not see any big techno scene there..  Wink

Actually, this makes sense.. DL wants to offer the same price from all destinations in the US to BER. Many other airlines do the same with their respective countries and give free feeders to their hubs..  Wink And yes, this is good for mileage runs.. unfortunately, many airlines (LH, AF) only give something like 125 minimum miles for cheap booking classes  Sad

MrNiji, you never cease to amaze me--I've always enjoyed your posts as long as I've been lurking here (just coughed up the $$ to join this week), and now I find out that you lived in my favorite city as well! As soon as I have a respected users list, you'll be on it!  biggrin

While the loveparade is history (I doubt it will happen again), Berlin is the most interesting city in Germany, with an atmosphere that is absolutely stunning. Actually, being from Bonn, I was always very sceptical towards Berlin and didn't like it at all the first 3 times I was there.

That was, unless I stayed in Berlin for one month last year. This month completely changed my mind. If you know someone to show you around or travel with a group of people that know where to go, it is absolutely great... I was living with some other students and we were doing tours through the nightlife of Berlin almost every day... What is great about Berlin is the fact that there are nightbuses that bring you home 24h a day, 7 days a week... This is absolutely necessary, however, as the city is very huge...
Additionally, the city is pretty cheap compared to many other capitals in Europe.

Talking about aviation, you MUST visit Berlin Tempelhof. If you have the money, you can book a sightseeing flight with a DC3 from Tempelhof around Berlin. While the rules to overfly Berlin were changed recently (a topic which I won't discuss here, too much has been said about the new stupid rules already), they are still allowed to overfly Berlin. I do not know when they fly and where to book, but it is a great offer...

Tempelhof is bad for spotters but a very interesting airport, and it is not closed yet, (totgesagte leben länger, persons declared dead live longer  Smile ) so it is a must see, as its architecture is extremely interesting (and from a bad period of German history), its still one of the largest buildings in the world.

TXL is interesting too, and SXF also has its positive sides, even though its way too far out of the city...

And you must not miss the Luftwaffenmuseum in Berlin Gatow (GWW), the 4th airport of Berlin which is closed now... Many interesting fighters can be seen there, both from the west and east. Its really interesting, but a little bit far from the center...

Explore Berlin, its worth it...

Agreed!!! Berlin is a wonderful city... I spent 4 nights there last year as part of a tour... can't wait to go back...

Very cool city!

In short: Waaay too much trash on the streets after the event, the leaders of the LP didn't want to pay for it, so the the Berlin Senate told them to f*ck off. Oh, and not to forget all the wild urinating, which wasn't really appreciated either.

Unbelievable. That is truly a great fare. It feels really great when you get away with a good deal like that, doesn't it? I recall when I bought for my Mom and aunt MEX-IAH-ORD-IAH-MEX tickets for $280 (all taxes and charges incl.) each, or when I paid GBP 35 for a one way LHR-BRU with SN. Great feeling!
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738
