What's Going On With The F-100 And B717 Projects?

Sun Sep 04, 2005 7:30 am

Hiya guys,

I was wondering what people know relating these issues:

1. Is Fokker starting the Fokker 100 project back up?

2. Is Boeing closing the B717 production line, or ahv ethey done it already?

And does anyone know if Fokker has a website?

Thanks
Mike

I don't know about the Fokker. But I do know that Boeing isn't going to make the 717 after it fills the ones that still have to be filled.

What I heard from former Fokker people, who have been for a long time full of optimism for a relaunch, there is no more hope.

They say that the KLM-AF group is in an absolute need for new aircraft in that size. Regional no goes for the E-Jets. KLM didn't announce yet for political reasons, but it will probably go in the same direction. They say, that many people are waiting for the KLM announce, as this is the "final dead" for a relaunch. This is also the reason why they still don't announce it.

To bad for a nice aircraft  Sad

Yer, bugger the B717 production.

The Fokker 100 should be allowed another chance. If only there was some money to re-design the Cockpit and Interior etc.

It's be a smart aircraft.

Thanks

Wonder why B is ending the 717? I guess is it because AirTran was really the only one buying them?

I someone said on a nother topic that they tried to sell it as a big RJ, and as you can see that didn't work. But I could be wrong about that.

That is correct, but the 717 never fit in the Boeing fleet as it was a MDC design. Boeing bought MDC for its military market share, not its commercial airplane group.
If it was said by us, then it must be true.

Interesting. I guess I didn't realise that that was the reason behind the Boeing purchase of McDonnell-Douglas.

I suppose that would explain the lack of support for the DC-10 and MD-11 as well.

Was the 717 supposed to be like an addition to the DC-9/MD-80 line-up?

Boeing stopped production of the 717 recently as orders for the 717 were relatively poor. I imagine Embraer and Bombardier have too strong a grip in this market segment for 70-120 seat aircraft, and it was not feasable for Boeing to continue production of the Boeing 717.

I am not sure what has happened to the Fokker program. However, several well informed AIRLINERS.NET member's would know. Check back soon and you answer might be here.

Greetings to All.

Yea. this is correct. Another reason Boeing dumped it was because they did not want to create competition against the already successfuly 737 line.

Production has not stopped yet, just they've stopped taking orders. There are still 11 more 717s to be delivered, with 4 or them to FL, 5 to YX, and 2 to T5. The last 717 is expected to be delivered next Summer (It would be appropriate for FL to take the last delivery)

If I had a choice between the 717 and the F100 I'll take the 717 anyday.

Rekkof website http://www.rekkof.nl/bannerframes/frame_home.htm last update 18th of march ... I heard in june that AF/KLM want 80 Fokker 70 jets, not Fokker 100. The total number needed for a relaunch was said to be 130 and that the CEO, JACOBSEN, is travelling the world to get the orders.

Hope it will happen . the F70 is a cool jet to fly in ...

I've never been on a B717, could you elaborate?

Easier to work for one. Cabin is more spacious, even though the cockpit layout of the F100 is good the 717's is a better IMHO. Reliability is better as well. Part of that has to do with better product support of course.

We already heard a lot about the Rekkof relaunch planes, and yet, nothing has happened, so I don't believe it anymore.

However, just recently the Fokker 100 really got very popular in Europe, being used by many LCCs. As far as I know, these come from US or American inventories. I just flew the F100 from CGN to THF, a really nice airplane for passengers. But I guess these airplanes are used because they are cheap to operate (low leasing costs and so on), not because they are better than other airplanes.

I flew on a F100 from Glasgow, Scotland to AMS on KLM and it was one the best a/c I have ever flown on. Very comfy roomy and quiet....wish there were more in the skies

Boeing does offer support for the DC-10/MD-11 family. One such an example would be the MD-10 conversion being offered by Boeing.
