Good grief. Yet another one. My condolences to the ones involved. Is there a bad runway there? The article syas that this is the third An26 down since '03 there. Was the weather bad at the time?

In the last 5 years 24 (!) Antonov-24/26/32 (these 3 are basically the same aircraft type) have been written off in African countries alone, most of them in either Congo or Angola.

What a tragic day again. Up to the crash of the Tuninter ATR one month ago 2005 had been one of the best years in aviation in terms of safety. (Oddly I´m sick with a strange illness no doctor apparently can help me with since that very day, even almost since the minute that crash happened. Not that I´m superstitious, but strange that is indeed.)

According to the turkish newspaper Hurriyet, the weather conditions were very bad.

Sorry, the link is in Turkish, but, it says, the weather conditions were very bad, and the aircraft hit a tree and cought fire 1500 m to the airport. The source of the report is the Okapi Radio.
I hope, we will no more hear news like this. But.....

Remember though, most of those in Angola were shot down by rebels. I remember there was two shot down in one week carrying Russian miners back from the diamond mines.
Keep on truckin'...
