I really hope AirTran can succeed in CAK. I mean...over the years they've seen pulls out such as puddle jumpers to CLE and service to PIT. CAK seems to be a very high risk airport to put in any new traffic.  sarcastic   wink   rotfl

so whats next? BWI, PBI, MIA, DFW, MDW, SFO, LAX, ...? lol

How does CAK rank as far as FL stations system wide?

Huh? They've been succeeding there for years now. Both the original AirTran and ValuJet served CAK. Since the merger between the 2, FL has grown from 3xATL and 1XMCO. Depending on season FL offers up to 5xATL now. The 1xMCO is still there as well.

LGA started with a federal grant, from what I heard from CAK officials, they hardly drew on the grant at all, and quickly added a third daily flight to take some of the load pressure off the other 2. When I fly to LGA, even the midday flight has heavy loads. The TPA service started as weekends only, but advance bookings were so heavy that it went daily before the service even started. BOS came next, takes a lot of biz traffic away from CO (Expressjet) and their high business fares.

FLL on weekends must be doing okay, but not great, otherwise other days would be added. F9 came in with DEN service and easy connections to LAS, so FL jumped in with 5x daily service. Haven't heard how its doing, but I suspect it's doing well. I never could figure out why FLL was added before RSW. There are so many snowbirds in the Ft. Myers/Naples area, I wouldn't be surprised to see it go year round very quickly.

Compared to other FL stations in markets the size of CAK itself, I'd say FL corporate is VERY satisfied with the stations performance!

It would be so tight for there to be a CAK-SFO non-stop on either FL or F9. I got a bunch of family in CAK (Youngstown and Akron), so a n/s out of SFO would be really awesome.

I guess Airtran was lucky to find such a customer base in Ohio for Florida flights. The flight looks like it will be served with 737s, any one know when the first set of winglets will be fitted on the 737s this month?

I wonder how much the government is helping them (Airtran and CAK) to pay for this flight.

You obviously have no idea how much NE Ohioans love to gamble. We just don't want it in our own state.

But seriously, should have been 5 time a week on the CAK-LAS service.

In this month's AirTransport World in an article on AirTran, Joe Leonard
talks about how CAK runs 11-12 flights a day out of one gate. Is this
possible or does FL have another gate or hardstand area at CAK they
can use in case of MX, diversions, delays and other fun IROP situations?

Actually, it's more than likely CAK helping Airtran. Perhaps a response to CLE finally beginning to fight back with some ads of their own?

The AirTran growth was spurred by a SCASD grant a few years back to bring LGA service. The market took off and FL has been taking full advantage of it.

DLX, why would there be goverment money to start CAK-RSW? Its served via ATL as well not to mention other airlines. RSW is not some underserved airport with 2 B1900 daily.

Well interesting that leonard would say 11-12 daily flights from CAK from 1 gate. Ive seen them occupy 3 gates at the same time. But daily they use at least 2 gates. With the start of RSW I think FL will have 5 planes RON'ing at CAK 5 days of the week. 3-717 for ATL/BOS/LGA and 2 737 for RSW/LAS. CAK is getting very impressive at night when you seen 4-5 planes remotly parked due to the high RON counts.

Anyone know if FL has mechanics in Canton for over-night checks?

FL uses 4 gates and 1 hardstand at CAK overnight and 3-4 gates in the morning.

N766UA, what's 4 gates does FL use overnight? If I remember correctly there are 5 jetways with 4 that can accommodate FL type A/C. F9 and DL use 2 of them overnight leaving 2 jetways for FL, gates 7-8 I think. Gate 4 if F9 and Gate 5 or 6 is DL.
