Is LOT Not The Unidentified 787 Customer?

Sat Sep 10, 2005 12:56 am

I guess we'll know when Boeing updates the orders page, but I was curious whether or not there has been another unidentified, committed customer this whole time, because Boeing did not mention that these orders were previously listed as unidentified, which they often, if not always, do in their press releases, and also because LOT is buying 7 for now, whereas the unidentified is for 6. There is nothing as unproductive as baseless speculation, but, then again, what is more fun?!! Any thoughts?

No. It was reported some time ago that LOT was not the UFO customer. However, many here continued to believe such. Boeing confirmed the UFO is from a leasing company, though not one of the big ones.

Well, with the LOT order now confirmed at the link below, I guess it may be IFLC or another lease company perhaps? Who can tell at this point?

I seem now to remember soemeone saying somewhere that it was a lesser known lessor. Any ideas on who that would be?

I don't think it is IFLC. They will order more than 6, when they do.

And yes there were some articles where Boeing said it was not IFLC.

Could it be the leasing company that belongs to the parent company of Icelandair?

Just fyi...I believe it's actually ILFC, which stands for International Lease Finance Corporation.

But at any rate, Hamlet69 said that the leasing company is not one of the big ones, and ILFC certainly is huge. Perhaps it is Pegasus or Bouillon?

Last week someone at Boeing was quoted (in FLIGHT) as saying that the identity of the lessor would come as a surprise to many. Tantalising...

That is correct. The following is from the Seattle P.I.

Although press reports continue to say that Boeing has failed to woo a leasing company with its 787, Bentrott disclosed that Boeing has such an order -- but just has not advertised it

It is apparently one that is not too well known.

"Some will probably be surprised when they find out who it is," he said.

I think that Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise (S.A.L.E.) is the customer. It would be surprising because they are not well known and they have a relatively small inventory. However, it would make sense because they service quite a few Asian carriers...carriers that could use the 787.

That is priceless!  rotfl

Reggaebird You make a valid case for S.A.L.E to be the Leasing Co, however, IIRC, it has been reported to be a European Leasing Co.

My wild guess: Pegasus Aviation.

Isnt their a leasing company in BAH or thereabouts who are rumoured to have placed this order?
