What Is The Status Of JAT- Airways In Belgrade?

Sun Sep 11, 2005 3:08 pm

Are there currently any developpements in Belgrade to beef-up the operations of JAT ?
Has the company decided to order long-haul aircraft?
One of their DC 10 is still in Nîmes ( for sale ?? )but very few news have leaked to the media about their plans. Are there any n.netters from Serbia with some detailed news?

Is the Pope German? Big grin

JAT has been in receivership for the past few months, undergoing necessary restructuring (whether its successful is another story but...) It maintains full services and has actually just received the two leased 733's that were on long-term leases with MAT in Macedonia.

Some senior managers from JAT were recently interviewed in a morning show on TV in Serbia - they promised fleet expansion (Embraer 170 apparently still a hot contender?) and more destinations in the near future.

When it comes to the beloved "Mike Bravo", there were alot of discussions about this aircraft; suggest you do a brief search on this site, you should stumble across a few threads with info.

Regards from Belgrade!

TS-IOR,

Word "JAT" doesn't mean Jugoslovenski Aerotransport any more. The previous management decided to keep a noun "Jat" in the name of the company (Jat Airways), because of its 78 year old history. It has nothing to do with "Yugoslav". I'm really curious why this bothers other people more than ex-YU folks.

JoKeR, we actually got some pictures and information on YU-AMB from Beaucaire. This plane was sold and was supposed to be converted to a freighter.

Just for the record, Jat Airways' representatives had a meeting with Airbus on August 23 in Munich about rescaling the 1998 order of 8 A319s to 4 frames, but no information leaked so far.

It might not be accurate, but it is the name well-known and shouldn't be abandoned that easily. It takes lots of time to create completely new identity together with new name.
