New US Airways Livery Questions

Mon Sep 12, 2005 6:50 am

Hi, just a few questions about the new US Airways livery.

1. Is this livery going on every plane, and if so, does anyone know what stages this will be in and any dates ?

2. Are the A330's going to be painted in this livery ?

Yes this is the new livery to be painted on all planes. Of course there will be the retro liveries on a few. I have no idea how they plan on painting them. It is usually done when planes go in for their heavy checks but they may excellerate the process.

As far as I know all aircraft will eventually be rapainted, including the A330s.

The oldest A330 is now 5 years old, meaning it should be up for its first D Check and repaint relatively soon, maybe over the winter when they aren't being used as much. Some of the 767s' paint are in horrible shape too, and they are used much less frequently over the winter so we could see one of them soon too.

All my personal opinion of course. I'll let someone else who knows more give some definate answers.

Just an FYI, Air Wisconsin has 10 planes in GLH right now getting painted. They are scheduled to come out tuesday and wednesday. As a result, you will be seeing the first USAirways express planes in the new paint scheme, which will be Air Wisconsin CRJ's, this thursday.

From what I understand the HP fleet will be first priority for the new livery. As the US planes need schd paint they will be redone.

To add: it's probably a safe bet that the first of the heritage liveries to roll out will probably be the America West plane since it doesn't require that much of a change from its current livery.

I've got some questions about this livery... including but not limited to

Who? (deserves punishment for this atrocity)
What? (the hell were they smoking)
Where? (did their common sense go)
When? (will USAirways earn it's respect back)
Why? (in their right minds would they do this)

sorry couldnt resist - im no big fan of this new USA3000esque livery.

In there press release US/HP made it clear aircraft would only be painted as and when they came up for major maintence and as a consequence numerous aircraft like the EMB-170 for example may not be painted for a number of years.

They are not prepared to pay unecessary repainting costs if it is not necessary.

For starters, a dark blue/black livery for an airline that has hubs in PHX & LAS don't mix; it's a heat & maintenance issue.

At present, many of US' planes (the older Boeings in particular) have peeling paint on them; usually as a result of the heat (& humidity) from its Florida and Caribbean flights.

When this merger was announced, nearly everyone knew that US was going to change its livery to feature more of a lighter color dominance.

This CRJ appears to belong to PSA Airlines. N257PS. I thought that they would wait untill they came up for paint again.

It might be a chop-job and I'm no fan of RJs, but the new livery looks good on the little jets!

A good friend of mine has informed me that AWAC deadheaded 20 pilots to MEM, then ground transported them to GLH, only to find out that all 10 airplanes had their tails painted incorrectly. All the crews are now heading back to their domiciles. Sounds like we'll be waiting a few extra days.

In all honesty, these two 737's need to be the first in line.  thumbsdown
