ATA - Today Is The Big Day

Tue Sep 13, 2005 1:13 am

A few weeks ago the buzz was that on September 12th there would be a strike vote from the pilots. Some sources (like the outrageous Indy Star) even suggested that this date would be the end of the airline.

Well that date has arrived, and my sources in the airline have not been giving out much information, but at the same time they haven't been packing their things either. The mood around ATA has been pretty much the same as it's been in the past few months (except for those furloughs at MDW last week).

So what will happen tonight? Have the pilots come to an agreement with ATA? Will ATA come to a grinding halt if they walk? If that happens - will they quickly convert their bankruptcy to a Ch 7?

I hope everything works out for the benefit of ALL parties. While I don't particularly care for unions, I do understand that they are trying to protect the pilots (which are already underpaid). I just hope they don't choose unemployment over another paycut.

Thank you all for your contributions.

hopefully the pilots won't strike. Has ATA planned for this like NWA did with its mechanics ?

No, I don't think TZ has the resourses available that NM still has. If the pilots walk, I'm afraid it is the end of one of my favorite airlines.

Id ont think its going to happen. Buzz on the FA union site is that they are still trying to hash out a deal. IMHO I think the pilots are trying to blow a little hot air at the company. I dont think this will work. Its better to have a low paying job then no job at all. Let's hope they see this.

Things seem to have calmed down at ATA. I just got off the phone with my contacts in IND and MDW, and everyone is in a chipper mood, so at this time I think everything is going to be OK.

The unions are still negotiating, but cooler heads seem to be prevailing for once. Bravo to everyone involved.
