First E190 To B6 Ceremony 9/13

Tue Sep 13, 2005 11:13 am

Tomorrows the day!

The first E190 will be delivered to JetBlue in an official ceremony at Embraer in Sao Jose Dos Campos in Brazil. You will be able to watch the ceremony in a webcast on the Embraer website (www.embraer.com) beginning at 2:00 pm EST on Tuesday, September 13th. The aircraft will then leave Brazil on Wednesday and fly up to Orlando to join the JetBlue family.

Wow sounds cool. Too bad I am in school at 2pm. I hope they save it on the site so we can watch it later. Also after the plane heads to Orlando, will it get LiveTv installed then come to JFK. Can't wait until it comes to JFK.

Will it make the quick stop at the FLL Embraer receiving facility first?

They havent been officially announced. I dont think they want to announce anything until the 190 is physically here! Proving runs, etc. still need to be completed too.

I have heard similar rumours, except that FLL will get the routes first, than MCO, and TPA will get a handful, but not much.

The launch route should be FLL-BUF.

Sometimes I wish you had enough integrity to keep the information you might be privy to, to yourself. Help us maintain a sense of surprise, and let's keep this thread about speculation and about the first E190 delivery to JetBlue.

No need to overreact to rumours. I'm not privy to anything jetBlue, and the rumour that FLL-BUF might be the launch route has been discussed numerous, numerous times before.

I actually think it's fine that people talk about to-be routes because what if the routes that are going to be announced are completely different? Now that would be a surprise, and knowing JetBlue, we're going to be surprised anyway...

Significant event IMO.

Nothing is certain, but the Emb190(LR) seems the right aircraft the right moment, worldwide. After a not so smooth development phase, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the most popular variant among EMB 170-195 family.

And since Bombardier is a little late and Fokker & BAe went out of this business, it seems a very healthy market for Embraer too.

Replacing old DC9/737/Fokker/Bae/Tu's variants and expanding hub/spoke and regional services, increasing environmental requirements, fast developing Asia markets, high fuel prices, many things seem to work in its favor, if Embraer can handle it..

It's ironic that I'm so excited to see this bird, considering how sick of them I'll be after six months.

An old article on the Emb 170 familiy:

Originally scheduled for certification by the end of 2002, the program’s six prototypes encountered more than their share of technical challenges, perhaps the most significant involving the airplane’s Honeywell Epic avionics suite. Problems with integration of the system’s software delayed first deliveries to Alitalia

Press release:

JETBLUE WELCOMES EMBRAER 190 AIRCRAFT TO THE FAMILY

-- Low-Fare Carrier Becomes First Airline to take Delivery of the EMBRAER 190 --

São José dos Campos, Brazil (September 13, 2005)
JetBlue Airways [NASDAQ: JBLU] today became the first airline to accept delivery of the EMBRAER 190 as it unveiled its first 100-seat aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer. JetBlue has firm orders for 101 EMBRAER 190s with options for 100 more through 2016.

The low-fare carrier is scheduled to take delivery of eight EMBRAER 190s this year, and 18 in 2006. Scheduled service will begin in November 2005 to destinations within North America. Specific markets will be announced shortly. The 2005 deployment plan for the newest member of JetBlue’s fleet will focus on cities already served by JetBlue’s current fleet of Airbus 320 aircraft.

“Today is a day JetBlue customers and crewmembers have been looking forward to for years,” said JetBlue’s CEO David Neeleman. “As I look at this beautiful new aircraft I see many new opportunities to bring the JetBlue experience to communities all over North America. With all-leather seats (and each one a window or aisle), 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio, 36 channels of free DIRECTV, and FOX Premium Entertainment, I am confident this aircraft will turn heads everywhere it lands.”

“In true JetBlue spirit, it’s our crewmembers who have worked so hard to get us to today’s unveiling ceremony,” said JetBlue’s president and COO Dave Barger. “Hundreds of dedicated JetBlue crewmembers have been working with our friends at Embraer for more than two years to ensure we’re turning out an aircraft JetBlue customers will want to come back and enjoy again and again.”

“Quality engineering and manufacturing, with a focus on economy, performance and comfort places our E-Jets in a class of their own – one that opens new opportunities for operators to effectively meet demand for markets suitable for jets with seating capacity ranging from 70 to 110,” said Frederico Curado, Embraer Executive Vice-President, Civil Aircraft. “JetBlue’s move to expand their innovative product and low fares to more destinations using our EMBRAER 190 is solid evidence that our E-Jets are indeed capable to meet the increasingly challenging market needs.”

Here are some facts about JetBlue’s new EMBRAER 190:

Seating Capacity – 100 all-leather seats with 32”-33” pitch
In-flight Entertainment – 36 channels of free DIRECTV and 100 channels of XM Satellite Radio. FOX Inflight is available on flights longer than two hours.*
Aircraft Length – 118.9’
Wingspan – 94.25’
Range – 2,100 nautical miles
Engines – GE CF34-10E6

JetBlue is a low-fare, low-cost passenger airline, which provides high-quality customer service. JetBlue operates a fleet of 81 new Airbus A320 aircraft and plans to add four additional A320s and eight EMBRAER 190s to its fleet in 2005. Based at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport, JetBlue currently operates 286 flights a day and serves 32 destinations in 13 states, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and The Bahamas. JetBlue plans to start daily nonstop service from Newark, NJ to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando on October 5, 2005, to West Palm Beach, Tampa and Fort Myers on October 19, 2005, and to San Juan, PR on November 17, 2005.

Embraer has an incredible high-resolution pic in their website. The name of the a/c is "Come Fly With Blue".

Also, press release say that jetBlue is donating 10.000 USD/plane delivered (first 100 a/c) to a High School funded by Embraer for students with financial limitations. The amount is to finance University educations for these students. After six months the benefited students graduate from University, they will begin to pay back and by so making it a self-sustaining program. That's very generous of JetBlue and they deserve credit for it.

Congrats B6, Embraer!

Embraer's strategy is right on the money. Kudos to our friends in Brazil who developed this great series of aircraft. I flew on the ERJ-170 on US Airways Express from IAH to PHL and was very impressed. I booked that flight purposefully to try out the new jet. I was amused at the check in counter when several business men ahead of me moaned when they heard the plane was an RJ. They had no idea what they were in for but I did. After that round trip I can tell you I prefer the ERJ-170 to even the 737 for flights of that length. The seats were a tad wider and the bins were surprisingly large. My only complaint was the front lav was a bit on the crunchy side with the roof causing me to have to stoop but no big issue. The interior cabin noise was less than the 737 and the speed comparable. I think other mainline carriers will replace their old 737's with the larger 195's. Continental's 737-500's would be an ideal case for replacement. CO needs an aircraft between the 737-700 and the ERJ-145. Just my opinion.

This is funny.

If the element of surprise were so important than maybe B6 should not offer the information to people outside the company. Looks like you should inner ranks first.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

MCO with spotters? HAHAHA... no just joking. Although MCO is the Nazi Germany of airports as far as photography goes, there are still a few of us (or at least me on here) that will brave it out. I'm sure the 190 is parked at the Jetblue hanger which is an area pretty much unable to be shot from any civilian location. I know a couple people here on the forums work for Jetblue in MCO. Maybe they could get a shot of it. I wish I could get the first shot of it in the states on here but I don't think that'll happen unless I get a definate departure time. And even then, it could change. Anybody know when it's leaving MCO?
