Give 'em 5 Saabs and call it even.

Interesting that the story is gone. I read it earlier when it was available and it didn't go into a lot of detail on what the payment was for.

http://today.reuters.com/investing/f...RLINES-NORTHWEST-MESABA-URGENT.XML

WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Mesaba Aviation Inc., a regional feeder carrier for Northwest Airlines Corp. (NWAC.O: Quote, Profile, Research), said on Tuesday that it had delivered a notice of default to Northwest after the airline failed to make an $18.7 million payment due on Monday.

Mesaba, a unit of MAIR Holdings Inc. (MAIR.O: Quote, Profile, Research), said it had told Northwest -- whose shares plunged on Tuesday on a report that it had decided to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection -- it could "exercise available remedies" against Northwest if the payment was not made by Sept. 20.

With rumors of NW impending bankruptcy filing, this certainly adds fuel to the fire.

"Available remedies" must refer to the imminent seizure of the DC-9 fleet!

Burnsie, do have ANYTHING to back up your claim? You might want to provide a little support of your statement.

XJ gets enough Money from NW. We give XJ to much money anyway. XJ is horrible for on time and the ARJ are always braking. But XJ still operates the flight 6-12 hours later just so that they can say hey we operated the flight so you (NW) need to write us a check.
I don't care who you fly just as long as you fly

Yeah, ok, how about using some facts to back up your pointless claim.

SA)">NW owns 10 of the Avro's and maintains the leases on the remaining 25 Avro's, the 49 B+ Saabs, and the CRJ's that are coming on-line. SA)">NW subleases the Saabs to Mesaba. Mesaba leases the remaining 11 A & B model Saabs from third party leasing companies or Pinnacle (the former Express I aircraft).
Don't blame SA)">NW, they are the one who negotiated the airline service argeements with Mesaba. Mesaba is paid for the Avro's on a block-hour basis, the Saabs are paid for based upon the number of ASM's. The CRJ's will be paid based upon a to-be determined operating magin.

SA)">XJ hardly horrible at ontime performance, no worse than SA)">NW, and far superior to Pinnacle, let alone MESA.

SA)">NW owes Mesaba to cover their operating costs. Remember Mesaba has ZERO income of their own, other than what they receive from SA)">NW (only a little fraction from ground handling Pinancle and other airlines at outstations).

Sorry buddy. NW pays for the fuel & landing fees on the Avro's
Mesaba pays for the maintenance & crew costs.
NW only owns 10 of them, the other 25 are leased by NW.

You have to XJ some slack. They are spending a lot of extra time (one of the reasons for a excessive amount of mandatory OT) fixing issues that were created by third party maintenance facilities they now send their aircraft to. Like the S340 that had a nice sized hole burnt through the floor from a miswired ground heater connection.

While we are at it to clarify, the Saabs are under a different agreement.
Mesaba subleases the Saabs from NW and other 3rd party companies
Mesaba pays for fuel, landing fees, maintenance, and crew costs on the Saab
They are paid from NW based upon the number of ASM's flown.
In fact, those ASM's are specified by NW who sets the schedule.

So don't give us this crap about blah, blah, blah, XJ flies routes only to get paid. They don't set the schedule, NW does. It is NW's expectation that Mesaba completes 100% of their schedule and will get compensated accordingly.

Mesaba is one of the lowest cost regionals out there, they run a fairly efficient operation.

Guys, what happens to Mesaba if NW files ch.11?...can Mesaba pay their creditors and continue as "business as usual" or will they be forced to file as well?
