A380 Pilot Training

Wed Sep 14, 2005 10:45 am

Hi,

Has the A380 crew training already started? If somebody here already flew on a Whale simulator, we'll be glad to hear your impressions!

Regards,

You can't build a sim to train pilots on until you've got an aircraft that works the way you want it to. Sims probably won't be built until the last year of flight testing, by then Airbus should have the airplane tweaked out and just building time to certify it.
Good Luck to all Skyway Pilots! It's been great working with you!

I recently saw a documentary on Discovery Channel where they showed the first test pilot training in a sim. Maybe they have a preliminary sim and data is added with every flight?

During the 1960s, NASA built simulators for the LM (which was being built) where the astronauts could practice landing on the moon, something that nobody had done yet! Since NASA could do that in the 1960s, I'm quite sure that Airbus can build a quite good simulator for a normal (but quite big) airplane in the 21st century.

Well you are going to explain to me what is the full flight simulator with A380 written on it that got installed in the new Airbus training center in TLS in the building next to mine...

And I guess the 20 old so pilots that already flew the A380, including EASA pilots, trained on Microsoft FS.

See here!

I agree. Of course flight simulators are the first equipment being built. Before first flight, test pilots have been using, and are still, the integration simulators that enable them to flight the A/C with systems and cockpit simulating the real A/C (a mix of real and simulated systems). I also believe there is a CAE A280 sim installed close to the integration simulators (that can be coupled with the iron bird).

Regarding the airlines pilots, I do not know the planning for that.

30 Airbus pilots have flown the A380 so far.

This month first customer pilots will take the stick to fly the real thing.

I've seen on a tv show over here a QF captain took the reporter on a joy flight in the A380 simulator. What FS 2004, that has an add on for flying the Whalejet.

I was wondering when the airlines would start training their pilots to fly the A380. And also how many people would you guys(and girls) reckon the airlinbes will hire per jet. I've always wondered how many pilots it takes to keep a plane in the air as mich as possible.

The flight training for the A 380 shouldn't be too difficult. As the test pilots reported she flies almost the same as an 330 or 340. A bit heavier and bigger of course  Wink .

Kind of, Airbus probably has a MX simulator, most of their training was probably in the A340. Yes, the test pilots fly the airplane before actually training on it.

The engineers knew what was in the cockpit & had an idea as to how it would fly. That is why the A380 is loaded with computers to record all of the data, this data is then added to the simulator computers.....

CAE completed the 380 flight simulator in YMQ before the aircraft first flew, of course it continues to be modified as more information from test flights come in. I can tell you though inside the sim its huge.

I can tell you that we have already selected a number of A330 Captains and First Officers to be the first to attend training for our company for the A380. They will then come back and act as trainers for other crew who will be assigned to this type. At this stage, only A330 guys are being trained for the A380, but there's sure to be some B744 drivers eager to get their hands on the megabus.

Cheers!
