Thu Sep 15, 2005 5:13 pm

Just saw Press Release of the issue:

Jade Cargo - joint venture of Shenzhen Airlines, DEG (German Investment Institution) and Lufthansa Cargo - has confirmed order of 6 x 747-400ER freighters. They will be powered with GE CF6-80C2 and are delivered in 2006 and 2008.

Boeing have confirmed it too. These are the 6 Unidentified 744ERF orders that are already listed. Good to have official confirmation.

SEATTLE, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA)
and Jade Cargo International, the first cargo airline in China with foreign
ownership, have completed a firm order for the carrier's purchase of six
Boeing 747-400ER (Extended Range) Freighters.

The airplanes, with a list price value of $1.3 billion, are scheduled for
delivery beginning in 2006 through January 2008. Jade Cargo, based in
Shenzhen, China, plans to begin operations in 2006. The airplanes were
recently included on the Boeing Orders and Deliveries Web site, attributed to
an unidentified customer.

How many orders is that for the 744 this year? Boeing sure seems to be racking up 747 orders in advance of launching the ADVANCED. Good to see this beauty will be flying for years to come. Can't wait to see first 747-ADV.

Does anybody have an idea what kind of livery these planes will wear? Shenzhen? LH Cargo? Or JADE (whatever it will look like)?

Good for Boeing. Now if the machinests would just show up for work, we could all have a few new planes to photograph!

Holy crap! Boeing's website is showing 25 gross and 19 net orders for the 744 this year.

When was the last time somebody ordered an A-380? Seems that they've been stuck on the same number for quite a while.

Boeing's strategy seems to be going as planned ! Offer the 747s extremely cheat to hurt A380s sales .

Hhmmm , more 747s orders this year than the A380 . Thought the 747 was dead ?

Long live the 747, the true Queen of the skies. Glad to see Boeing getting some 747 orders, hopefully this will push the 747ADV project!

I think it's already a foregone conclusion that the 747-Adv will be launched this year. Actually, if you look at the space/weight statistics for cargo, the 747 is a better freighter than the A380. If you're not concerned about flying max weight with cargo (i.e. Fedex, UPS, etc.) then the A-380 gives you more space. For true air freight carriers though, the 744 and soon to come 74A is the wiser economic choice.

Well , if that's the case then the so called " Queen of the Skies " can out bench the King , the A380 ! The a380 has to go hit the gym so it doesn't get it's butt kicked by a girl !

Actually, the so called "King" needn't be working out with weights...he's bulky enough. Rather, the beefy boy needs to don a sweat suit and do some push-ups in the steam room...maybe hit the Stairmaster....swallow a handful of diuretics...and go on the Atkins diet.

What's the purpose of comparing the B744F to the A380F which are different in size and feature different operation profiles?

Quoting Co7772wuh (Reply 6):

Nonsense. Most airlines which ordered the B744F recently didn't even consider the A380F. See above.

"When was the last time someone ordered the A380?"

Paris airshow, 5 A380's for Kingfisher. Prior to that 5 planes for China Southern and 10 for UPS. That's 20 so far this year. With the airshow in Dubai yet to come. And your point is...?

BTW, When was the last time someone ordered the passenger version of the 747? And how many have been sold since the A380 has been on offer?

Sorry, but with EK holding nearly a 1/3 of the total A380 orders, major airlines aren't exactly clamoring to harness the whalejet. Once the 747Adv is launched and gets one big passenger order (from a number of likely customers) it will be a serious blow to the A380 program's business plan. It doesn't take much detective work to see that the market for such a large plane is somewhat limited. I mean since 1969 there have been slightly less than 1500 747s sold worldwide...this during a tremendous period of increased passenger traffic.

Nearly all the major US airlines are BK so couldn't order the A380 if they wanted to (or the B747)  rotfl

Firstly, I'm not American, but rather I am currently living in the U.S.

Secondly, I'm not saying anything bad except that the A380 is above weight (A FACT) and that AI has, indeed, overstated the market demand for the airplane. That is all.

Yes, I am a Boeing fan...particularly of the beautiful 747, a marvel whose timeless elegance was remarkably designed by gents using slide rules.

The 747F/ADV-F and A380F compete directly for orders with air freight carriers. Please explain to me how they don't.

Looks like LH Cargo didn't forget that Boeing still exists!  eyepopping

Great news for both Boeing and Jade. Congrats to both. Now, when the hell is LH Cargo going to get off it's ass and order the 777-LRF already!

B744F and A380F aren't in the same segment. They are structurally different and in different volume categories.

That won't happen anytime soon. They have just introduced some more used MD-11 freighters.

True enough, my good friend, but we're hearing rumors to the contrary here in the States. An increase in capacity certainly wouldn't hurt them, since all their competitors (Fed Ex, UPS, Air France, etc) seem to be doing just that.
As you know, UPS just ordered 8, I think, 747-ERFs, while continuing to take delivery of MD-11 conversions.

Quoting N754PR (Reply 14):
Wow, American users with nothing good to say about the A380.... thats strange.

That certainly isn't true and you know it. Just because analysts, a-netters, and aviation industry insiders on both sides of the pond are questioning the A380's benefits, doesn't make them anti-A380.
I'm looking foward to watching it fly over my house while landing at JFK. Having said that, I too have reservations about the design theory behind it. I still believe that Boeing's future market vision is probably more accurate, then the theories that brought us the A380. That doesn't make me anti-A380.

Sal
